Jesus Saves Ministries Delivers Turkey and Toiletries Baskets at Christmas

Christmas week, Jesus Saves Ministries put in work until late Christmas Eve delivering dinners complete with turkeys to five families who have faced adversity this year. Though the economy appears by news accounts to be improving, and gas prices are down, we know that many families, particularly in poor, black and low-income neighborhoods, are still struggling and need help with food and the basic necessities of daily living.  

A couple from the Portland area, requested prayer and the wife was overcome with tears when I delivered a box and toiletries basket to them.  The couple follows our ministry on Facebook.  

A mother of four whom we've helped previously replied, "Thank you so very much!!  You are truly a gift from God.  He sent you when I needed you, but was too stubborn to ask.  Thank you!!  May God continue to bless you and use you to do His works."  

A young working mother of three, still very much in need of assistance cried when she got word this turkey basket was about to be delivered her way by Rev. Michael Lee (below).

Rev. Syvoskia Bray Pope, Pastor, New Century Fellowship Christian Church replied on Facebook, "We thank you, Minister Angela for the donation that we used to bless one of our church families.  God bless you this holiday season."  New Century Church received our last box, and a toiletry basket also.

Over the past six years, Jesus Saves Ministries has distributed approximately 300 toiletry baskets, known as "Blessings In a Basket," to the less fortunate, particularly during the fall and winter months.  In the last two years, we have been able to include a few food baskets to our distributions.  These turkey dinners were distributed in partnership with the WLOU/Praize 104.7 FM's "One Can Make a Difference" Food and Clothing Drive.   In November, Jesus Saves Ministries and the Compliments of Ree Hair Salon received enough donations to feed seven families.  We are grateful that we have been able to help make a difference yet again at Christmas in the lives of a few families.  To God be the glory!

The Real Meaning of Christmas

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:10-14).

What is the real meaning of Christmas?  It depends on who you ask.  For many in society, Christmas is just another holiday or another season to make money. Christmas means jolly ol' Saint Nick is on his way to find out whose been naughty and whose been nice; that the halls are decked with bales of holly, lights, trees, and and shiny things.

For some, Christmas means family and foods from festive recipes loaded with sugar, spice and everything nice. Christmas to the sports fan can mean its the season for basketball and football - games galore, college rivalries, bowl games, NBA and so much more.

For others though, Christmas means not gladness but sadness, worries and stress about mounting bills, which gifts to get and which gifts to give.  It is the most dreaded time of the year. It is sad when gift-getting and gift-giving overshadow our greatest Gift, Jesus the baby in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothing, when Christmas is lost.

The real meaning of Christmas, though, can be found in Scripture in the greeting the angel(s) gave the shepherds the night Jesus was born (Luke 2:10-14).

The real meaning of Christmas is...  
1) That God loves man:  “Fear not” (v10); (See also John 3:16 and 2 Timothy 1:7)
2) That God’s love is manifested” “For, Behold,” (v10); (See also 1 John 3:1)
3) That God showed His mercy before man sought it” “I bring,” (v10); (See also Romans 5:6-8)
4) That good tidings and joy are for every individual: “you,” (v10);  (See also Acts 13:32)
5) That God is no respecter of persons: “to all people,” (v10);   (See also Isaiah 52::10 and Romans 2:11)
6) That salvation from sin is within reach of everyone (v11). (See also Acts 4:12)
7) That God wants man to enjoy peace on earth, and good will among men (v 14) (See also John 14:27).

In the Presence of the Lord There Is Fullness of Joy

On Sunday, March 16th, my birthday, I had the great pleasure to speak at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Louisville for their annual Ushers Day program. I spoke on joy from Luke 1:39-56, and the story of Mary's visit with Elizabeth. Almost every the following week, God continued to give me additional revelation on joy as relates to Elizabeth, Mary and John.

Elizabeth's joy was tied to her position in the faith and in the house; baby John's to his position as a prophet, and Mary's to her position as the mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Their collective joy, expressed in different ways, on this occasion was tied to their proximity to the unborn Savior of the world. They stood, the three of them, in the presence of the Lord, and in His presence there is fullness of joy!

A primary assignment for ushers who stand at the entrance to the church house, is to greet guests and visitors as they enter and exit the building. What makes this story relevant for Ushers Day is the agency and activity of the Holy Spirit and when He begins to move. We are so use to talking about the Holy Spirit coming at Pentecost, but here is an instance of His presence before the birth of Jesus. Luke 1:40-41 states, “…where she (Mary) entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit….” It is interesting that the Holy Spirit begins to move precisely at the point of greeting, and greetings usually occur somewhere near the door. And where do we find ushers serving faithfully at every worship service? At the entrance. At the door. The psalmist says in Psalms 84:10, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

Joy is the birthright and birth mark of the believer. It is a fruit of the Spirit, a character trait of the believer. That doesn't mean we should be happy all the time. In fact, your joy may be a future destiny or purpose, something God is calling you to. For Elizabeth and Mary, the Lord called both to motherhood of uniquely gifted children. For John the Baptist, it was to a unique prophetic position between two dispensations. John was the last of the Old Testament prophets, and greatest of all the prophets (Mark 1:1-8). That’s why we can't be too quick to abort that which God has given us. John had joy from the womb to the tomb. Even though he had difficult days, his joy was complete because he lived his life doing the will of God. Mary had joy because she knew how to spell joy, J-O-Y. She put Jesus first, others second, and herself (Yourself) last. When you live your life according to this godly principle, Jesus will have your back. Jesus had his mother's back at the Cross.

Happenings On the Jesus Saves Social Network - December 12th

A Not So Silent Christmas By:  Min. Angela Lee Price

We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this month with good tidings of great joy! Although we love to sing "Silent Night," the night Jesus was born was really not so silent. The multitude of heavenly host began praising God, saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, goodwill toward men" (Luke 2:14). A Daily Bread devotion says about that night, "Heaven's choir came down to sing when heaven's King came down to save." The shepherds, too, were not so silent that so-called silent night. After running to see baby Jesus for themselves, they ran to Bethlehem to share the news with the people. As Christians, we ought not be so silent during the Advent Season.  Let us here on the Jesus Saves Social Network be bold, boisterous, believers in sharing the good news that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son to save us from our sins.  Keep Christ in Christmas and tell everyone in your community wherever you live, and around the world on the internet that Jesus saves!

 Backstage Happenings from the West Louisville Performing Arts Hope Awards Christmas Concert

Bill and I backstage at the West Louisville Performing Arts Academy 15th Annual Hope Awards Christmas Concert, Sunday, December 7th at the Brown Theatre. WLPAA Founder and Director McDaniel Bullitt, his wife lovely Mamie, holding flowers, did an amazing job again this year with a concert that so beautifully ushers in the Advent season.
Kentucky natives, Michael and Annie Bolden were the honorees and recipients of this glass hands trophy. The musician and soloists have performed throughout the United States and around the world.
The spectacular boys and girls choirs rendered a number of traditional Christmas carols including "Carol of the Bells," "Behold the Star," "Credo," "The Christmas Song." They performed "Hero," by Mariah Carey and an upbeat rendition, "It Don't Mean A Thing," by jazz great Duke Ellington. There were special performances by the Love Fellowship Church Liturgical Dance Team, the Christian Academy of Louisville Jazz Band, and the melodious operatic voices of Michael and Annie Bolden. Superintendent John C. Robinson, Sr, Pastor, Bible Way Church of God in Christ gave the invocation.  Amber Dixon and Alexandria Bluitt, ages 9 and 10, welcomed everyone, and Christen Boone, President/CEO Fund for the Arts offered expressions of appreciation to the academy. Boys choir member Emmanuel King introduced the honorees.  Producer Sherlene Shanklin kept us all on point! This is the third year Bill and I have been  a part of this concert that not only enhances the cultural experience of West Louisville youth, but also showcases their gifts and talents. In a tweeter notification today, Pastor F. Bruce Williams, Pastor, Bates Memorial Baptist Church, Louisville, Kentucky has call for a show of protest against recent black male violence.  He has asked the entire Bates Memorial Church congregation to wear black at all weekend services this weekend.

December 7th - 13th is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) 

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) is a national observance that was established to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination.  Reports out this week say that in Kentucky influenza activity is now at the highest in the state with flu and flu-like symptoms in half of the regions in the state. Be sure to get your flu shot! 

Bill and I got free flu shots live on the radio in on Saturday, October 4th at a Kentucky Health One live remote with Ms. Krystal at the Louisville Central Community Center.  KHO offered a free health screenings, massages, flu shots and other services to the community at the event.

Jesus Saves Ministries Feeds Needy Families at Thanksgiving

I am reminded of what the apostle Paul stated in Acts 20:35 (NIV), "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" This Thanksgiving, we experienced the blessed joy in giving. Jesus Saves Ministries partnered with Compliments of Ree Hair Salon, located in Mudd Plaza, to provide food baskets to needy families at Thanksgiving. We give a big thank you to Cheri Barlett, owner (Left) for hosting our donations box in her shop. Her clientele responded in a major way with donations even after the deadline. One lady suggested that we include Bibles, something we were already planning to do. We included Daily Bread devotionals in each basket as well. We had a goal to feed five families. However, we exceeded it supplying baskets to a total of seven families, including four families at the Garden Variety Women's Transitional Home.

Here are comments from three recipients:To Whom It May Concern: Jesus Saves Ministries has proven once again that people are what they are all about. I was looking at not having a nice dinner, but because of people like them, and all of the generous donors, my family has received from the Lord both natural nourishment in the form of this food basket and spiritual nourishment in love and enouragment that we we have received, and we are extremely appreciative. West Louisville Boys and Girls Choir Christmas Concert

An anonymous single mother stated: "I hate having to ask for help, especially since my children and I were helping people with Thanksgiving and Christmas last year...We went three months without utilities only to get them on a couple of weeks ago with the help of Liheap. I'm unable to get Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas presents, or anything. I am so appreciative for this basket."
After delivering a basket and turkey, Rev. Michael Lee posted on Facebook:
"Thank you, thank you" is what was said to my wife and I as we delivered the Thanksgiving basket from Jesus Saves Ministries and a turkey donated by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Theta Omega Chapter, to a mother and her three little children. Thanks to all who contributed to this worthy cause.

A Prayer for Our Children - October 29th

Dear Heavenly Father, We come to you today and ask for forgiveness of all our sins, even the ones we were unaware that we committed.  Most of all Lord we want to thank you, thank you for past blessings, present blessings and future blessings.

Lord as parents, let us abide by Your words in Matthew 19:14, "Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these."  We have the responsibility to teach and bring up our children to worship and believe in You.  We ask that we be childlike in our love and trust of You.  We ask Lord that You will continually bless them, keep them, free them from bullying and harm, free them from promiscuity, free them from harmful influence, and free them from drugs and alcohol.  We ask that they turn to You when they are suffering and struggling, and that they will always put You first.  In the blessed name of your son, Jesus Christ.  AMEN!

Here is a short prayer I give to some of my grandchildren and young cousins: WASH YOUR HANDS AND SAY YOUR PRAYERS.  BECAUSE GERMS AND JESUS ARE EVERYWHERE.

Most loving and gracious FATHER: I come to you humbly as I know how on behalf of teen girls and teen moms, ladies and women, boys and men who are living in sexual promiscuity. Father, we know that sex and all those sexual desires outside of marriage are only temporary “feel good” fixes because as Your Word says in 1 John 2:17, “For we know that the world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (NIV) Father, In the name of Jesus, for that teen girl or woman contemplating abortion as her only option; in the name of Jesus, for those parents who are taking their children to abortion clinics; in the name of Jesus, for that woman who aborted for the sake of a man.  Lord, please shower down Your mercy on the doctors, nurses and midwives who are performing abortions. 

Father, we need YOU like never before. Help us Father to stand for purity and abstinence. Father, give us strength to just say no and to wait on You for that man or that woman that You have prepared for us in holy matrimony.  Lord, please chip away the hardening from around our hearts and minds so we can hear and obey the true and loving Counselor that You have left with us. Galatians 5:16-17 admonish, “…walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” (NIV)  Father, You delivered Rahab, the prostitute, David, the adulterer, the Samaritan woman, and so many others. It was not so long ago that You delivered me too, so, I am throwing myself once again at Your feet of mercy.  In the name of Jesus, please convict us in our hearts and in our minds and destroy everything that which is keeping us from living in Your holiness.  I pray all these in the merciful name of Jesus the Christ.  Amen.

Your Word tells us that we should train up a child in the way they should go, and when they get old the will not depart from it.  Your Word is quick, powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, and everything that You speak gives life to us.  We ask in the name of Jesus that you continue to lead all single parents to follow what You say, regardless to society's standards.  We trust that there is nothing too hard for You to do, and even when we don't know what to do, our eyes are on You!  So right now, show us what we should do, according to Your Word!

Remind each single parent that, just like You told the children of Israel, in Deuteronomy 11:18-19, " Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up!"  Father God, show parents how to instill and teach Your ways, as You teach the parents, to pray, admonish, and show respect.  We pray that You bind up every evil spirit, that speaks into the ear of the parent or child, or shows them things that appear to be right to do but are not!  Let the Blood cover everything that the devil tries to do, IN JESUS' NAME!   We count it done!  AMEN!

Prayer of Deliverance for Women In Addiction and Bondage - October 22nd

Dear Heavenly Father, this prayer is being lifted up on behalf of women everywhere in the world who are broken, women who have fallen and cannot lift themselves up, women who are suffering from depression and anxiety, women under the bondage of shame from divorce, bankruptcy, abortion, prostitution, sexual exploitation, low self esteem; women suffering from addictions of shopping, alcohol and drugs (over the counter, prescription and street) and abuse by intimate partner (psychological, physical, spiritual and financial), women who have one foot in your House and the other in the world, women who are unemployed, women who are looking for love in all the wrong places, women who have lost all their self respect and self worth. Lord God, in the name of Jesus, please have mercy on us and extend Your mercy and grace to women lifted up in this petition.

Father Lord, it is only by Your grace and mercy that I have been delivered, released and redeemed from bondages, guilt and addictions, and for that I say, thank you Lord. Lord God, please have mercy, please extend your grace, please touch each and every woman being lifted up under this petition every where in the world. As Romans 5:5 tells us that hope maketh not ashamed, and Father God, you did it for me, and I know you will do it for these women because I have hope and faith in You and am not ashamed of the things You have delivered me from. Lord, You have redeemed me and as Psalm 107:2 declares, let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy. Father, your Word in Psalm 120:1 tells me that in my distress I cry unto you and you hear me.

Father, that I know because you have heard my cries often and have answered. Dear God, I am humbly asking to please, please, please deliver and release these women, in the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus. We know that after 12 years you delivered the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5. Lord God, I am thanking you in advance because I know, yes I know that women will be delivered, released and redeemed, all in the name of Jesus. Thank you precious Father, thank you dear God. Thank you Father. Amen.
