iPhone and Android Compatible Emergency Numbers for 2013

While we pray that your New Year will be a blessed and prosperous one, we are award that God never promised us a life without adversity. He said in this life you will have trouble, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world (John 16:33). Jesus said in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Here are a few Emergency Numbers from Scripture to call on in 2013 to help get you through your "going through." Put these numbers in your iPhone, your Android phone, Galaxy S3, and on every electronic communication device.
When in sorrow, call John 14
When you have sinned, call Psalm 51
When you worry, call Matthew 6:19-34
When you are in danger, call Psalm 91
When you need faith, call Hebrews 11
When you feel down, call Romans 8:31
When you want peace and rest, call Matthew 11:25-30
When the world seems bigger than God, call Psalm 90
When your pocketbook/wallet is empty, call Psalm 37
When you are lonely and fearful, call Psalm 23
When you become bitter and critical, call 1 Corinthians 13
When you need help getting along with people, call Romans 12
When you are depressed, call Psalm 27
When people seem unkind, call John 15
In 2013, let the Word of God give you what you need when you need it! Have a blessed new year!
Remember, it is not Mohammad, Buddha, Confucius, nor New Age that saves. Jesus saves!

Wise Men Give Gifts

By: Min. Angela Lee Price
Matthew 2:1-2; 10-12 KJV

(v1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.
(v2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
(v 10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
(v11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Who were these wise men, these three bearing gifts to the baby Jesus? They were outsiders from the East, Persia, which is modern day Iraq. Magi among the Persians were the intellectuals, philosophers and priests. Persia and the eastern nations were known for their star gazing, astrology, and idol worship. God in his infinite wisdom and sovereignty spoke even unto the Magi in their language of the stars and drew them from afar, some 800 miles to worship the new born King. You should be shouting right there! The Bibles says at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus as Lord. This means that one day every star gazer, astrologer, magician, every tarot card-reading soothsayer, gypsy, and psychic, no matter how far-fetched and off-based their beliefs, they shall all one day bow and confess Jesus Christ, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
No doubt their gifts were wrapped with beautiful bows and ribbons of multi colors, cut from the finest cloth. They traveled, following the extraordinary star, to present their best to the new born King, money and products from their far-away land, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Some commentaries suggest that the Magi offered gold as tribute to the King in Jesus, rendering to Caesar that which was Caesar’s; frankincense to the God in Jesus, for God was often honored with the smoke of incense; and myrrh to the Man in Jesus, that should he die, the myrrh could be use to embalm him. These wise men gave gifts to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

So, as you make plans for those office holiday parties, nativity plays, concerts, church programs and festive family gatherings, I've stopped by to ask what are you giving Jesus for Christmas?

God has given every Christian at least one gift to bring to lay before the King, a spiritual gift. First Peter 4:11 states, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms” (NIV).

Ephesians 4:7-8 tells us Jesus, the Perfect Gift, has given gifts to men. Our gifts have been given “for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (v12). Wise men give gifts!

I know some of you are saying I have no money. I have no job. I can’t afford Gucci, Lou Vuitton. I’m like the Little Drummer Boy and Alicia Keys singing “Little Drummer Girl” where she says, “Christmas is lost. I have no gifts to bring to lay before the King. Br rump, pa, pa, pum. It’s just me and my drum!” Then, my brothers and my sisters, by the mercies of God, present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Bring discernment, evangelism, and giving; bring hospitality, intercession, and knowledge; bring pastoring, teaching and writing; bring your musical gifts, vocal and instrumental.

Bring that gift that is within you! Sing glory to God in the Highest! Sing glory to God in the Highest! Sing glory to God in the Highest and on Earth Peace, good will toward men (Luke 2:14)!

New Release: The Visitation, Mary's Encounter With Gabriel

Join me, Angela Lee Price on Saturday, December 22nd for Jesus Saves Ministries Live, The Radio Show! My guest will be Bread of Life East Baptist Church, Kansas City, Mo, Praise and Worship Drector, Maurice Jackson. Maurice will be debuting his new song, The Visitation, Mary's Encounter With Gabriel. Celebrate Christmas with us Saturday, Dec. 22nd, 8:30-9:00 AM on Praise Power 1350 WLOU and the New Praize 104.7 FM, Louisville, KY!
Heaven's greatest gift was sent to earth when God wrapped himself in humanity. The event that changed the entire course of mankind began with the miracle of the immaculate conception. Nine months before the manger; and nine months before the multitude of angelic hosts appeared to shepherds to announce the birth of Christ, one angel by the name of Gabriel, delivered a private message from God to a young virgin named Mary. She was told that she would bring forth the Messiah!

'The Visitation' is a beautifully orchestrated musical adaptation of this incredible encounter as recorded in the book of Luke 1:26-38. This warm ballad uses well placed rich, soaring symphonic and lyrical crescendos to lead the listener back to the meeting place of Nazareth. With an emotionally inspiring duet performed by songwriter Maurice Alan Jackson along with the wonderfully gifted Edrica Mack, this dramatic composition will transport you to the very conversation had between these two God-appointed vessels. You will begin to visualize the powerful change taking place within Mary as she receives the Words of God. Her innocent heart moves from troubled uncertainty, towards tender moments of curious attention and finally to full assurance as she embraces her place in God's plan to bring forth The Savior of the world.

DIVAS for Christ Honor Homeless with Prayer Breakfast

DIVAS for Christ (Divinely, Inspired, Virtuous and Victoriously Anointed Sisters) presented a beautiful Advent candle lighting prayer breakfast on Saturday, December 15th at Hotel Louisville honoring the homeless women at Wayside Christian Mission with a warm meal and HUGS - Hats, Undergarments, Gloves, Slippers, and Socks.
Rev. Dr. Altonnette Hawkins, President and Founder of DIVAS for Christ opened the program with welcome and history of organization. Rev. Mary Frances Stiner, First Gethsemane Baptist Church shared on the royal significance of the color purple. Rev. Sherrie Miller, Quinn Chapel AME Church, offered Prayer for Homeless and the Blessing of the Food.
Five ministers from various churches and denominations from around Kentucky participated in the lighting of the Advent candles of hope, peace, joy, love, and the Christ candle, Rev. Syvoskia Bay-Pope, Rev. Mary Francis Stiner, Minister Cassandra Harris-Gray, Minister Angela Lee Price, and Rev. Dr. Kathy Goodwin respectively. They each spoke of the significance of their candle and prayed a brief prayer.
Rev. Ton'ya Triplett and psalmist Julia Royston, both of St. Stephen Church, ministered in song. Rev. Amariah McIntosh, Pastor, Phillips Memorial CME Church, Lexington, Kentucky preached a moving and uplifting sermon on Mary the mother of Jesus stating that women were blessed and highly favored of the Lord. Pastor McIntosh ministered in song as well. Also, included was a "Shop Around" Meet the Vendors segment that allowed vendors to share briefly about their hand-crafted, and one-of-a-kind items.

Jesus Saves Ministries' founder Min. Angela Lee Price lit the candle of Love stating, "We lit the candles of Hope, Peace and Joy. Now we light the fourth Advent candle, the candle of love which is also purple. We light the candle of Love as we remember that Christ will come again and bring us everlasting peace and joy. It's light is meant to remind us of the love that God has for us. Jesus shows us God's perfect love. He is God's love in human form. The Bible says that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.  Love is patient, love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful or conceited, rude or selfish. Love is not quick to take offense, it keeps no records of wrongs, it does not gloat over other people's troubles, but rejoices in the right, the good, and the true. There is nothing that love cannot face, there is no limit to its faith, to its hope, to its endurance. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8). We light this candle of LOVE today to remind us of how God's perfect love is found in Jesus.

Heavenly Father, Lord, thank you for loving us so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus to die for our sins. Father, forgive us for the times we have failed to love as You have commanded. Your Word reminds us, "If I gave everything to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it, but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing." Help us to love You faithfully. Help us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves (Romans 13:9). For You have said in Your Word, "Three things will last forever - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). In Jesus Name, Amen."
DIVAS for Christ is a global Christ-centered women's ministry network focused on self-care awareness and support.  In 2001, Divas for Christ was birth as an ecumenical women's ministry network.  Since then, it has evolved from the traditional women's ministry model to an international online women's ministry network with over 1500 members.  "We believe that before we can effectively serve and care forothers, we must first care for ourselves.  Jesus is our perfect model of self-care found in Mark 1:35," stated Dr. Hawkins.

WATCH: Jamie Foxx Blasphemes God and the Lord Jesus Christ by Calling Barack Obama "Our Lord and Saviour"; Even If he Was Joking, This Is Really Stupid and Blasphemous - BCNN1

Do you think Jamie Foxx committed the unpardonable sin or is this much to do about nothing? I watched the Soul Train Music Awards last night and really enjoyed it. There were statements made throughout the show celebrating President Obama's re-election to a second term.....and? Why would anyone be surprised by this since roughly 90% of African Americans supported President Obama's re-election?  Jamie said "First giving honor to God, and to our Lord and Savior Barak Obama...." Jamie Foxx is a comedian. He makes people laugh for a living. His job is to say silly stuff. On ocassion, Jamie goes over the top. It may have been in poor taste, but you have to take what he said with a grain of salt.

Show Some Love for "The Least of These" With Blessings In A Basket!

"For I was an hungered, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick or in prison, and come unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto youm Inasmuch as y have done it to the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me"

"Blessings In A Basket" is our missions initiative to provide personal toiletries and supplies to "the least of these," the homeless, the unemployed, the elderly, and to disadvantaged people in Louisville and Southern Indiana.

This is the fourth year for this initiative. Our goal this year is to distribute 50 baskets to shelters, transitional homes, nursing homes, and to individuals for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Generally, our baskets contain a Christian t-shirt, toiletries (and/or undergarments) tioletries including shower gel, perfumed body spray, and lotions, a Christian novelty gift, a New Testament Bible, Memory Cross Card with A, B, C's of Salvation, Jesus Saves Newsletter, and candy. Matthew 25:35-40.

Prayerfully consider making a donation in any amount to help us get out as many baskets as possible before Thanksgiving!

Can you donate some "blessings" for our baskets, or volunteer a couple of hours one weekend to help assemble baskets? If so, contact Min. Angela Lee Price by e-mail or phone 502-415-1001.

New Report says the Systematic Incarceration of Black Males Is a Wrong, Expensive Path - BCNN1

(BCNN) Mental health experts from Meharry Medical College School of Medicine have released the first comprehensive report on the correlation between the incarceration of African American males and substance abuse and other health problems in the United States. Published in Frontiers in Psychology on the 12th of November, the report looks at decades of data concerning the African American population rates of incarceration and subsequent health issues. The authors conclude that the moral and economic costs of current racial disparities in the judicial system are fundamentally avoidable, especially if more resources are spent on education and treatment.

Money would be better spent on treatment than on incarceration

The study highlights the fact that with regard to African American males in the prison system, individual States are paying more to lock up non-violent offenders than they are for education, since 60% of incarcerations are due to non-violent, illicit drug-related crimes. The authors also point to a previous study from 2,000 showing that the total cost of substance abuse--be it incarceration, crime or treatment--is over $500 billion per year for the US.

These and other statistics have led the authors--scientific experts often called upon to testify in court--to conclude in the paper that: "Spending money on prevention and intervention of substance abuse treatment programs will yield better results than spending on correctional facilities." (More)

God's Heavenly Ultrasounds

There was a lot of discussion about women's reproductive rights and mandatory ultrasounds in the presidential election. Biblically speaking, I did not see evidence in Scripture for "mandatory" ultrasounds while working on this post. God decided to give us a "glimpse" at pre-natal activity in only a few rare occasions to underscore, I believe, His Sovereign Will for honoring the sanctity of life.

I love the Bible. Modern technology has nothing on it. Pregnant women often have ultrasounds in order to look at their babies while they are in the womb. Ultrasounds help determine the sex of the baby and can detect abnormalities or irregularities before the baby is born. Many people celebrate this technological advancement if for no other reason than it helps alleviate the uncertainty at baby showers of what to get the expectant mother. What was thought of as a medical breakthrough some forty years ago was nothing new to God. God's heavenly ultrasounds are in the Bible! The prophet Isaiah said, "Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name" (Isaiah 49:1). The psalmist said,"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb" (Psalm 139:13).

Two stories in the Bible come to mind of God's heavenly ultrasounds, a look at the prenatal activity of unborn babies in the womb. The first biblical account is of Rebekah's pregnancy with fraternal twins, Jacob and Esau. Genesis 25:22-ff states the babies "jostled" each other within her (NIV), and King James states they "struggled together within her." When Rebekah inquired of the Lord as to what all the comotion was about, He told her "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger." (NIV). The details of the pre-natal events suggest, for the sake of this narrative, how important these little lives already were not only to their mother and father but also to God in fulfilling His purpose. And on the day of their births, the Bible says, Jacob came out "grasping Esau's heel."
The story of Mary's visit with her cousin Elizabeth suggests the importance of pre-natal life, and gives a glimpse at John the Baptist before His birth. We often focus on Elizabeth being filled with the Holy Spirit and what she said about Mary being blessed among women and the fruit of her womb being blessed. We gloss over what she says about her own baby John. Elizabeth told Mary "As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy" (Luke 1:44). What is important here is that both mother and baby responded to Mary's voice. At the sound of Mary's voice, baby John, "leaped for joy." The bible says we can know the tree by the fruit it bears. (Matt. 12:33). The fruit of Elizabeth's womb contained the future heralder of the coming King, and in the presence of God, the unborn Savior of the world (pre-natal, don't miss that, yet God), baby John received through the Holy Spirit on the job training as he leaps, not for fear or trepidation, but for joy! And Elizabeth was six months pregnant at the time. Moreover, the angel of the Lord had previously appeared to Zechariah, told him his prayer for a child had been heard, what sex the baby would be, what to name the baby, that he was never to have strong drink, and finally the angel said, "he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth" (Luke 1:11-15 NIV).

These stories are God's heavenly ultrasounds. Certainly God's explanation to Rebekah helped bring clarity and calmness to her spirit. She learned she was pregnant not with one superly overactive large baby, but with twins. She learned their sex, and sometime important about their destinies. John says this about himself as an adult near the end of his ministry of repentance and baptism, "The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He (Jesus) must become greater. I must become less" (John 3:29-30). We know John was joyful before birth and he was joyful at the end of his ministry.

These "heavenly ultrasouds" teach us that all human life should be valued and appreciated. Children are to be reared in the love and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). God has a plan and purpose for their lives, that is to bring glory and honor to Him (Ephesians 3:20-21). Jesus saves!

A Prayer for the Election/Get Out to Vote - November 2nd

A Prayer for the Election/Get Out to Vote - November 2nd
By: Rev. Michael Lee, Joshua Tabernacle Baptist Church, Louisville, KY
Heavenly Father, we thank you for all of the grace and mercy you have bestowed upon us. We thank you for allowing us to live in one of the greatest nations in history at one of the greatest times in history. We understand the awesome responsibility that you have given us to elect our own leaders. Oh Father, we pray that as we approach that day when we elect the individuals who will head this great nation for the next four years, that you will guide us with your divine insight and wisdom to choose those leaders who are after your own heart. Help us to choose leaders who will govern according to your will and way. Oh Lord, please bless each of the candidates and guide our chosen leaders by your divine providence. Empower them with hearts for all of the people, especially those who are downtrodden and forgotten, locked up and locked out, and for the defenseless.
Oh Lord, indeed you have given us an awesome responsibility, so I beseech you to help us to move out in mass as a mighty army inspired by you to every polling place come rain or shine. Mobilize us, Oh God as one body acting in unison to bring about your divine will in this country. We humbly place ourselves into your hands knowing that no matter who becomes President that Jesus is still on the throne and your will will be done. It is in the matchless and marvelous name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Our Shepherd's Children

A Prayer for Our Shepherd's Children
Min. Shirley Crenshaw Wooten, St. Stephen Church, Louisville, KY
Thank you, God for giving parents that awesome task of rearing children. Children are buds that grow with every breath. God, you sustain that breath and holds the hands of those rearing the children. How can children grow? They can with Godly guidance, with daily planting with knees that bend constantly in prayer. Crying out to God in daily prayer. Thank you, God for allowing our knees to bend, our eyes to see, your hands to give in times of need. Thank you for the Shephard's touch in His children's lives and allowing the ministering to stay alive. Thank you, God for works of those who push their children to carry every load. Thank you, God for mercy and righteousness. Thank you for the love untold, unfailing love that holds children in place while God is unveiling his plans for a life of demands.
We acknowledge that we all have problems with children sometimes, but who but you, God can understand every time. We know our children are less then perfect, but who but you, God can give them another chance to be what at first they couldn't be. Thank you so, so, much for all children, the children we have so many times left behind, the ones we see on the street corners crossing the street, getting off the buses, going to the stores, walking alone at night, playing on playgrounds, even knocking on doors in strange places. Thank you for children in hospitals, children in mental hospitals, children in homes, and children in centers, Home of The Innocence, and finally children in other countries, cities, states, and places. We pray for them all. In Jesus name, Amen.

We invite you to join the Jesus Saves Social Network!

For the East Coast: A Prayer In Time of Trouble

Min. Angela Lee Price, St. Stephen Church, Louisville, KY
Heavenly Father, You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. You are in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; You will help it when the morning dawns. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge (Psalm 46). Last year, Father it was Hurricane Irene, and now Hurricane Sandy. Father, we prayed then and we're praying now. No other help we know! Millions experienced a violent night last night. The wind and waves beat against the shores! The cities flooded. Millions are without power. The fires burned in the borroughs, Lord. Yet, you are God! Speak now we pray, saying, "Peace! Be still! (Matthew 8:23-27).

Even in this time of trouble, oh Lord, trouble don't last always! Even in this time of trouble, oh Lord, joy comes in the morning! For we stand on your Word and we believe your promises! Shower down medics, oh Lord, first responders, and volunteers to help the needy. Increase your loving hand of protection upon sleeping babies in the shelters. Rescue the unsaved today, we pray from the wind and waves, and yes even unto eternal life. Thank you, Lord for your Son Jesus Christ. He is the only way to eternal life! Jesus saves! We pray for the East Coast, for your very present help in trouble, for salvation, deliverance and victory found only in You. To you, Lord, be glory, power,  dominion, and honor both now and forever! In Jesus name, Amen.

Black Churches Redouble Their Efforts To Get People Out to Vote - BCNN1

Whitney Paul, who was a first-time voter, looked over a handout with suggestions as she waited with college friends for early voting to start in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday.

The Rev. Eugene W. Diamond of the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church here rarely pays attention to the clock when the spirit moves him to preach, but midsermon on Sunday, he said something unusual to his flock of hundreds: "Timing is critical, so let me hustle."

He had already scaled back the minutes devoted to worship. Congregants had been instructed to forget wearing their Sunday best in favor of comfortable shoes because they all had work to do: moving thousands of "souls to the polls." And they had only one Sunday to do it.

Mr. Diamond stressed the urgency in a tambourine-shaking, trumpet-blaring finale to his prayers: "Bless us as we make our voices heard!" he shouted above the music. "Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!"

Across Florida, black churches have responded with ferocity to changes that Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, and the Legislature made to eliminate six days of early voting this year -- including the Sunday before Election Day, which had been the traditional day to mobilize black congregations. In 2008, black voters cast early ballots at twice the rate of white voters, and turned out in significant strength on the Sunday before Election Day to help propel Mr. Obama to victory here.

Now, with Florida's 29 electoral votes up for grabs in a close race, Obama supporters are counting on a newly energized black base to put them over the edge despite the tighter window for early voting. A victory here for the president would defy recent polling and make his path back to the White House much easier.

In the newly revised schedule, early voting began on Saturday and continues through next Saturday. The churches, then, have one Sunday instead of two to move their members to vote. (Read more)

Early Voting Rules in KY and Elsewhere

Yesterday, President Obama voted early in his home state of Illinois. Early voting is up significantly in many states. Have you vote already or do you plan to vote early this election?

Early Voting Rules
Early voting takes place in person before election day at specified polling places and (in some states) satellite locations. Thirty-two states and the District of Columbia offer "no excuse" early voting - voters in these states do not need to provide a reason for voting before election day. A handful of states offer early voting only to voters who have a valid excuse for being unable to vote in person on election day.
Early voting is sometimes called early in-person voting, in-person absentee voting, one-stop voting or advance voting.

Here are Kentucky's Early Voting Rules:
Yes! You may vote early in person using a voting machine by absentee ballot;
You must submit application for absentee ballot at least 7 days before the election.  You have until 6:00 PM on election day to submit your ballot either in person or by mail if:
  • You will be out of the county on election day;
  • You are Military, their Dependents, or an Overseas Citizen;
  • You are Military personnel confined to base and learn of your confinement within seven days or less of an election;
  • You are a Student who resides outside the county or a resident who temporarily resides outside of the state, and will not be in the county on Election Day;
  • You are a voter or the spouse of a voter who has surgery scheduled that will require hospitalization on Election Day;
  • You are a pregnant woman in your third trimester.
OR you are one of the following:
  • Precinct election officer appointed to serve in precinct other than his own
  • Alternate precinct officer
  • County Board of Elections’ members
  • County Board of Elections’ staff
  • Deputy county clerk
  • State Board of Elections’ staff
Early voting starts 12 (or more) working days before the election and ends on election day.
Contact your Local Election Official to learn more about early voting in your area.

What to Do When Halloween Falls On a Church Night - BCNN1

NASHVILLE (BP) -- Pastors and church leaders faced the question of how to handle Christmas Day when it fell on a Sunday last year. The news media highlighted churches that chose to cancel services on Sunday to allow families to celebrate at home. A LifeWay Research study, however, found that nine in 10 pastors planned for their churches to host Christmas services on that Sunday.

This year, Halloween falls on a Wednesday.

According to a 2011 National Retail Federation study, "seven in 10 Americans (68.6 percent) plan to celebrate Halloween." If your church is like most others, you have midweek programming on Wednesday nights and it is unlikely that you would cancel those activities for Halloween.

The question is: What do you do when a major cultural event that does not represent your values threatens to hijack your activities?

Let me share how our church has chosen to tackle this. Our Wednesday night programming includes dinner, age-level activities and short-term connect groups for adults. I called an "ad hoc strategic meeting" with key staff members who lead or are involved in Wednesday activities. The only item on our agenda was to deal with our plans for Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012.

After discussing all the options, we decided not to ignore Halloween, but to plan a few simple enhancements for the night and communicate to our church family in time for them to make their own decisions about participation. Click link for more.

Prayer for An End to Violence and War - October 25th

Prayer for An End to Violence and War - October 25th
By: Min. LaQuita Gaskins, St. Stephen Church, Louisville, KY
O loving and righteous God, we love you and desire to be like you! We thank you for all you have done for us. Forgive us for our trespasses, God. Spirit of God, forgives us! Instead of loving our enemies, we have demonized our enemies. You are so righteous, Lord. You search minds and hearts, Lord, and we ask you to search our hearts and bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure in your abilities (Psalm 7:9). Lord, you establish the righteous. Lord, End the evil of those who are wicked and defend the righteous!
Lord, we pray for an end to war, poverty, starvation, racism, sexism, executions, torture, abortion, nuclear weapons, global warming, global wars, and violence of every kind in our world. We pray, God for you to heal the bombed out, and unwilling people in this world today. Take all hate from our hearts, O God teach us how to un-judgmentally help others in finding their way. Open our eyes and show us what things make it easy for hatred to flourish, so that we can cast it out before it catch root in our minds and hearts so it will not be hard for us to conquer it. Lord, we pray that you will lead us into your love! You sent your son Jesus Christ as a representation of that kind of love. We pray that you will lead us to your type of justice. You gave us the law to show us your justice. You confirmed it through the Prophets you sent. Love is stronger than hate! We know that by your stated peace. “My peace I leave with you! And My peace I give to You”! In Jesus name, Amen.

Join Our 12-HOUR FAST!  If you could not fast along with us on Wednesday, it's not too late to pick a day this week to fast as well as pray. Give up something you love eating or doing for 12 hours and give that time to the Lord in prayer, scripture meditation, or bible study. Let the Lord lead you. Some of you may want to abstain for all foods but liquids, while others may want to abstain from favorite food and activities. Some of you may want to give up television, or texting, or telephones or computers, while others may want to abstain from sweets, and shopping. Be sure to read Mark 9:19-29. The disciples could not cast the foul spirit out of the man, and when they asked why, Jesus stated "This kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting." (v 29 KJV). Some bible versions, like NIV, add fasting as a footnote.
Let us fast and pray as God leads each one so that God's will may be done in the earth. Thank you for everything you are doing for the the Kingdom of God in this hour! The effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much!
