Pastors, ministers, praise and worship leaders, prayer warriors, Sunday school classes and number of churches and ministries took to the streets in Christian t-shirts on Saturday, June 23rd to praise God, and pray for West Louisville in response to recent gun violence. Approximately 250 walkers participated in this three-mile 5k walk/run around Chickasaw Park that started at 8:00 a.m. with pre-walk praise and worship. The walk, the kick-off to Saturday Summerfest 2012 activities got underway at 9:00 a.m. The theme was "We walk by faith and not by sight." 2 Corin. 5:7.
Jesus Saves Ministries, Inc. founder Min. Angela Lee Price, the walk coordinator gave the call to action, Rev. Patricia Wright, Prayer Ministry Director, St. Stephen Church, offered prayer, and Pastor David Snardon, Joshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church spoke to group from Word of God. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, Police Chief Steve Conrad, and WLOU/Praize 104.7 General Manager Bill Price all gave remarks. DeWalt "Coach Mo" Mozziz, of Biggest Loser television show lead walkers in stretching exercises during pre-walk worship and warm-up. The gospel group Robert Jamison and Victory lead walkers in singing praise songs, and Rodney Cross of the Neil Huffman Auto Group drove pace car on first two laps. The walk consisted of three one-mile laps around Chickasaw Park in West Louisville and along Southwestern Parkway. Walkers sang songs of praise on the first lap, prayed on the second lap, and challenged themselves to "finish the race" for Christ and reach their purpose on the third lap. "We thank our sponsors, volunteers and supporters for sharing the vision for Praise Walk 3.0. We couldn't have done it without them. When the saints go marching in, get off the seats and take to the streets in unity, with prayer and praise as our weapon, the enemy will be defeated. We were overjoyed to many people running on the last leg of the walk. Another Angela once said, and it bears repeating you can't reach your purpose if you can't reach your toes," stated Min. Angela.
Praise Walk 3.0 kicked-off Summerfest 2012, a day-long festival in Chickasaw Park which drew national gospel recording artists, Ernest Pugh, Myron Butler, Issac Simpson, Jason Clayborn, and Chad Higgins & In Spirit and In Truth. Summerfest organizers also hosted The Praying for Peace Community Prayer Breakfast on Friday morning.
The prayer and praise walk was broadcast in part live on WLOU Radio between 9:00-9:30 on the Single Mothers Let's Talk Radio Show. Members from the Jesus Saves Social Network and Min. Price's Sunday school class Learning About Jesus distributed hand towels, water, and assisted with registration.
