Listen for Angela Lee Price On WLOU Radio!

By: Min. Angela Lee Price

I am back on the radio and this time in afternoon drive! Traditionally morning (6:00-10:00 a.m.) and afternoon drive (2:00-6:00 p.m.) slots have been held by men. A large majority of women announcers nationally are midday announcers. I, too, was a midday announcer at WLBJ Radio in 2004. I was an evening announcer at B-96.5 and at Magic 101.3 when those stations first came to Louisville. I got my start in 1981 as an intern at WLOU. Greg Huffman, entertainment writer for the Louisville Defender recognized me as Best Radio Announcer of 1987 for a show I hosted on WLOU mornings from 9:00-10:00 a.m. called "For Ladies Only," a show for the community and not just ladies.

I worked behind the scenes full time as Executive Administrative Secretary to then owner and General Manager William E. Summers, III, at WLOU in the early 1980s, and later served as Traffic Director, scheduling all national and local commercials, under owner John H. Johnson of Johnson Publishing Company, the founder of Jet and Ebony Magazines.

My roots in Louisville area radio are not only long but historic. William E. Summers, III was one of the first African Americans to own and operate a radio station in America. I worked first worked at WLOU from 1981-1988 at a time when WLOU was the Number 1 station in the market twice and consistently ranked among the top 5 stations for several years. Bill Price programmed WLOU during those years, as well as Hot 104, WLBJ, and now WLOU (gospel). He has achieved many awards over the years, nationally and locally recognizing his accomplishments.

In observance of Holy Week, our gift to listeners will be Inspired By...The Bible Experience, The Complete Bible on audio CD and mp3. Nicodemus and all his Negros helped produce this award-winning audio Bible, Angela Bassett, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Denzel Washington, Kirk Franklin, Bishop Charles Blake, Yolanda Adams, Yolanda King, Bishop Noel Jones, and many more, some 240 people in all. Listen for excerpts this week on the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior. I have heard other audio bibles, but this one is the best I have heard! Inspired By... makes a great gift to ministries with members with reading disabilities, to seniors ministries, or to audio visual ministries. It comes complete with 79 CDs, a convenient carrying case, and uses Today's New International Version of the Bible.

Remember, it is not Mohammad, Buddha, Confucius, nor New Age that saves. Jesus saves!
