It's Time to Take Back West Louisville

By:  Bill Price
We all know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, a sordid place where all types of evil took place, where people were robbed of their dignity and their moral compass by ungodly men who followed their lusts rather than God. When it comes to economic empowerment and business development, The West End has become its own Sodom and Gomorrah where corporate greed and a lack of social responsibility has become the norm rather than the exception. It doesn't happen in Hurstbourne, and it doesn't happen in other parts of Jefferson County. However, in West Louisville, we have businesses that have done little to endear themselves to the community. Yes, we may get a couple of minimum wage jobs out of the deal, but little else. These businesses come and they take and give little back. Where is the support for community programs? Where is the philanthropic arm for social change? Where are the stakeholders from these businesses working to help us transform our community?  Money goes out, but little remains in.

No community can survive when businesses come and take and give little back. When we will stop allowing outside businesses to come in and rob us our most precious resource and that is economic prosperity? When will we stop allowing businesses that don't care for us, sell to us? The bible says : "Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it."  The book of James put it this way: "Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.  it is time for us to turn our backs on oppressive businesses who fail to become a part of our community. Not only should we turn back, let's not look back as we encourage a new era of community development where we attract and retain businesses that have the best interests of West Louisville at heart.

God The Father, Godly Fathers, and The God Fathers

By:  Min. Angela Lee Price

As we celebrate Father's Day on the Jesus Saves Social Network, we are discussing three categories of fathers, God the Father, Godly Fathers, and The God Fathers.  Join us in our discussions this week by commenting on one of these categories of fathers:
  1. God The Father                                                                                   Using the Word of God, provide examples of how God the Father was a great father to God, the Son.
  2. Godly Fathers
What is the difference between godly fathers and those who perpetrate in the spirit of  the movie "Scarface" and "The God Father?"  Give examples of godly fathers in your family, church and/or community.
  3. The God Fathers
What does God have to say to young fathers who have gotten caught up in the lifestyle of drugs, fast money, cars, women, and illegal commerce, i.e. to men who present themselves not at godly fathers but as gangsters or "God Fathers"?
  4. Identify men or verses in the Bible that you would attribute to one of the three "father" categories.  For example, you can identify your favorite verse by or about God the Father, identify your favorite "godly father" or the most infamous father.
Post your comments here or join our discussions on the Jesus Saves Social Network!

We are grateful for fathers who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and who realize that God's grace, full of mercy and justice, is the force that gives all of us life and men the opportunity to be fathers.

Thank you for supporting Jesus Saves Ministries.

Look to Your Neighbor! Neighbor! Oh, Neighbor!

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and it is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”Ephesians 2:8-9
In black church tradition, preachers often tell their congregations to "look to their neighbor." Looking to your neighbor is immediately followed by saying something to them. Sometimes preachers tell you what to say and sometimes they don't. Sometimes those moments can be awkward, especially if you don't know what to say or how to respond to something someone says to you! So, here are a few things to say, based on my review of Ephesians Chapter two, the next time the preacher says "look to your neighbor."

Neighbor! Oh, Neighbor! Look to your neighbor and say, "LOVE." Ephesians 2:4-5 states, “But because of his great love for us,...""Love" means "LORD OF VIRTUE EVERLASTING." Jesus Christ is Lord of virtue, and the greatest of these is love (1Corinthians 3:13). Ephesians two tells me I was once an object of God’s wrath (v3), but now I am an object of God's love.It is Jesus’ love that saved me from the wages of sin. Look to your neighbor and say, "God loves you!" Look to your neighbor and say, "LOVE!"

Look to your neighbor and say,"GRACE!" Ephesians 2:5-8, reminds me I am saved by grace. I am a “GRACE” case. “Grace” means G – God’s R – Riches A – At C-Christ’s E – Expense. God's grace is "incomparable" (v.7), My salvation came at Christ's expense! So, should I keep on sinning that grace my abound? No! I was saved by GRACE!

Look to your neighbor and say "FAITH!" Faith means "FORSAKING ALL I TRUST HIM!" Ephesians 2: 8-9 states, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and it is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast."I have faith to trust God. It was not faith in my faith that saved me, but rather faith in God's ability to save me that did. And that faith I didn't get on my own. God gave it to me out of His vast treasury of grace. I was saved by FAITH through grace!
Look to your neighbor and say "HOPE!" Hope means "Having Only Positive Expectations" Ephesians 2:10 states, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

I have hope because I know who I am and whose I am. I am God's workmanship. I have hope because I know where I am. I am in Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places (v6). My future is bright because I have been called to do good works, not to get saved but because I am saved. I have HOPE!

Neighbor! Oh, Neighbor! Look to your neighbor and tell your neigbhor you have "faith", "hope," "Love," and "grace" in Jesus Christ!  Jesus saves!

What Do You See in "TGIF?"

By Min. Angela Lee Price
TGIF!  Thank God I'm Forgiven and it's Friday! It's time to check your spiritual vision. What do you see in "TGIF?"  In the spirit of the Soul Train Scramble Board, we present the Jesus Saves Scramble Board.  There is a lot to see in "TGIF."  When we unscramble "TGIF," we get the word "GIFT" - Jesus Christ is our Perfect Gift (John 3:16). He died for our sins.  "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:24). Additionally, God has given believers at least one spiritual gift for the work of ministry (1 Peter 4:10-11).

There are words, "I," and "FIT" and "IT." From "TGIF" comes this sentence, "I FIT GIFT" or "GIFT: I FIT IT." God doesn't make mistakes. You fit the gift(s) God has given you! The mistake that we make as Christians is we don't stir up our gifts (2 Tim. 1:6).

There is "FIT" - The Word of God is the foundation of our relationship with God. His sheep know His voice because we study to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15, 19). We "GIT FIT" by attending Sunday school, Bible Study, and small groups! " Also, we must "GIT FIT"  physically, too through exercise. How can we reach our purpose if we can't read, write, and reach........our toes!? "Git fit!"

From "TGIF" we get the word "FIG." Jesus cursed the fig tree because it did not bear fruit (Matt. 21:18-21). Figs generally appear on fig trees in February, followed by leaves, which are not formed until late Spring. Jesus cursed the tree because it was well past fruit-bearing season, yet it still unproductive. It is February. Is there spiritual fruit on your tree? The Bible states in Luke 13:8, "And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down." Let's do what God requires and bear much fruit (Gal. 5:22).

From "TGIF" is phonetically the word -- "GIFT-IT." Christians have been given Spiritual Gifts for the work of ministry. We are not saved to sit, but to serve. Ephesians 2: 10 (HCSB) states, "For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them."

After you have meditated on this, hopefully, you will say, "I GIT IT!" I am "GIFT-IT!" So praise God for your spiritual gifts and fruit! I praise Him for all the gifts He has given you and me! You are GIFT-IT!

Happenings on JSM and the Gravity of Gospel Hip Hop

The Gravity of Gospel Hip Hop
By: Min. Angela Lee Price
Embracing contemporary gospel music may not be the answer for every church congregation, but it can be a way to keep young people from slipping into what secular hip hop mogul Jay-Z calls “the wild.” Jay-Z won a Grammy in February for "No Church In The Wild", his collaboration with Kanye West featuring Frank Ocean & The-Dream, a song that prophetically and pathetically describes the state of postmodern America. He says society has gotten so bad that people have been reduced to nothing, to a mob. In the hook, he rhetorically asks, "What’s a mob to a King? What’s a king to a God? What’s a God to a non-believer who don’t believe in anything?" In a violent and troubled time, Jay-Z is asking where is the church? He is being facetious because to him the answer is clear. The church is nonexistent. It is ineffective. There is no church in the wild, the wilderness. To a great degree he is right. In a time when people show no respect for God nor for human life, the church has become ineffective, a social gathering place. Even Bishop T.D. Jakes, one of the most well-known preachers on the planet said recently that he's tired of the "Hollywood Spirit" in the church.
I am so glad God is raising up a new generation of young men and women in this postmodern age who are not afraid to stand up against forces that speak against the church. God is gifting young people to speak truth to power with integrity, authority, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. While the church has its issues, the Bible declares that the gates of hell shall not prevail against her. The 21st century church has to stand up and begin to embrace our best and brightest young representatives, artists like Da Truth, and LeCrae, who has not only given a strong Christian retort to "No Church In the Wild" in his song, "Sacrifice," but also won a Grammy this year himself. LeCrae won a Grammy for “Best Gospel Album” for his groundbreaking "Gravity" CD. In winning the award, LeCrae made history becoming the first gospel hip hop artist to win a Grammy. LeCrae has proven that gospel hip hop can no longer be taken lightly. With gifted artists such as LeCrae giving a contemporary defense for the faith with integrity, Gospel hip hop has become an undeniable force in the gospel music industry.

Min. Angela Talks With Pastor, Renown Gospel Singer Alvin Darling
I have been wearing my "radio hat" more regularly these days, sitting in for the announcers on WLOU Radio. On Friday, April 19th, Pastor Alvin Darling stopped by the WLOU studios and talked with me and WLOU's afternoon announcer Brodric Purvis on air about pastoring two multi-cultural churches, one in New Jersey and the other in Long Island, NY, and his illustrious gospel music career, his affiliation with St. Jude Hospital, and new CD being released on April 23rd. He was in town for a St. Jude Benefit Concert at New Hope Baptist Church. I will be sitting in this Thursday and Friday for Purvis, so check me out on Praise Power 1350 WLOU and the New Praize 104.7 FM.

My Brother Marvin Stage Play Responses:
"Thanks for the tickets to My Brother Marvin. My wife and I did make it to the 7:30 PM showing and we enjoyed ourselves. The play depicted how Marvin's life came to a tragic end and the play brought it all back to life for a moment. I enjoyed the second half best as it was filled with singing. This was the first time that my wife (of 45 years) and I had been out on a date night for a while and we both enjoyed ourselves." Steve Jones, Louisville
I went to see this play last night with my sister THANKS 2 PRAISEPOWER1350 WLOU. WE had a GREAT time. You never know someone's story until they either die or get killed. Kim Scott, Louisville
The play was great!!! It would have better if we could have heard some of Marvin's songs! Mary Johnson, Louisville

The fourth annual Uprising conference called pastors and church leaders together on Thursday, April 18th. It featured speakers Steven Furtick and Mark Ashton, among others. Pastors and church leaders in attendance in previous years were emboldened and impassioned to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ the central focus of their church.

The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit At Pentecost

"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.    And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability" Acts 2:1-4 (NRSV).

What an awesome Sunday school lesson we had on Acts Chapter 2 on Sunday! The lesson was entitled, The Signature of the Holy Spirit. In this lesson we discussed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  A signature by definition is "the name of a person or a mark or sign representing his name, marked by himself or by an authorized deputy; 2. the act of signing one's name; 3.  a distinctive mark, characteristic, etc., that identifies a person or thing (freedictionary.com).  The signature of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost included distinguishing marks or characteristics, that gave evidence, effect, and explanation of His coming. Jesus tarried on the earth 40 days after His resurrection preparing the disciples for the promised new move of God, the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.  The bible says, "He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father's promise.  This, He said, "is what you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now (Acts 1:4-5).  The Holy Spirit came suddenly. There was a source, from heaven. There was sound like a rushing wind. The was  sight, cloven tongues as of fire descending on each person. There was speaking, Galileans (uneducated people) in different languages they had not learned, and Peter speaking, explaining the event as what was prophesied by the prophet Joel.  The result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and Peter's preaching repentance for the remission of sin was the Kingdom received an abundant harvest of souls as 3,000 received Christ, were baptized and were added to the church that day (v 41).

In this Acts 2, we see the birth of the early church.  The Holy Spirit showed up suddenly without expectation and invitation (Acts 2:1). No one had to invite Him to the Birthday celebration.  He hosted it Himself.   God is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere simultaneously. He doesn't need to be "asked in," or "invited into this place," for David declared, "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness there of, the world any they that dwell therein" Psalm 24:1.  There is no where you can go, and God is not there.  Psalm 139:8 states, "If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there." It would do us good to take the Holy Spirit off our agendas, and get on His agenda.

The reason the Holy Spirit shows up and shows out with such fanfair, engaging miracle three of the five senses, sight, sound, and speech, was because God needed to get their attention.  He needed them to understand that there was about to be a radical shift in how they worshipped God and related to Him.   The outpouring of the Holy Spirit signaled  relocating of the manifest presence, Shekinah Glory of God from the temple in Jerusalem to the new temple in the believer.

We overlook all the ways God gives us "tongues," although not exactly like in the text. I studied intensive Spanish in high school and college but I didn't have the faith to stick with it. I know only a few words when I hear them and can speak even less. What happened at Pentecost was a move of God because the uneducated Galileans never learned the languages they spoke. What I am talking about are the ways we switch between "languages" at work, home, and church everyday without attributing that as a working of the Holy Spirit.

When I worked at Humana, I struggled to understand what they were talking about in some departments because I couldn't speak the "language. "The codes and terms used differed across departments. I had to know enough to communicate with everybody. We are blessed when we can understand people from different backgrounds, even the youth with their hip hop language.

I am certainly believe that our youth should get an education, but just because some of our youth don't speak the King's English doesn't mean they are not intelligent. We do our youth a disservice when we judge them too quickly by their cover, their appearance and their language without taking the time to get to know them and understand where they are coming from.

I love it when God opens the eyes of my understanding to see what was there all along! Oh, to see as God sees! Oh, to have a revelation, and be able to share it with others! It makes my heart happy, and my toes tingle! That is why Sunday school and regular bible study and word-based small groups are so important. People who go to church for worship alone don't grow as they could or should. We are praying for the manifest presence of God in our lives, a move of the Holy Spirit! Let us know the Lord and the power of His resurrection!  Jesus saves!

It's A Spiritual Gift: Don't Get It Twisted

Rev. Angela Lee Price
"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.    And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Acts 2:1-4 (NRSV)
Have you ever tried to do something nice for someone only to have them read into your gesture something that wasn't there? A friend, co-worker, brother or sister in Christ "gets it twisted" and starts smiling, and staring at you as if to say, "I know you like me," after you compliment their shoes. You invite a friend to stay temporarily in your home while in their crisis situation only to discover they've "gotten it twisted," and you can't get rid of them months after they've gotten through their "going through." Your generous gifts were misunderstood, misapplied and misused.

The Lord has done something nice. He has given spiritual gifts to Christians by way of the Holy Spirit, but often His gifts are misunderstood, misapplied and misused.  Spiritual gifts "prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:12-13 (NIV)." Spiritual gifts are important to the body of Christ and when they are misunderstood, misapplied, or misused, the saints suffer and the church is crippled.

Spiritual gifts is a subject about which there is much debate within Christianity, and many have "gotten it twisted." Some Christians believe all, or certain gifts, ceased in the first century and none, or only a few, are available to 21st century believers. Other Christians believe all spiritual gifts are available to believers today through the Holy Spirit. Of those who believe in gifts of the Spirit, there is great debate over when certain gifts are received. The early church first experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, 50 days after Passover.  Today, many Christians believe spiritual gifts are given to believers when they accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Still others believe Christians can receive a “Second Blessing” at some date subsequent to conversion which is evidenced by speaking in tongues.

Although fire as cloven or divided tongues rested on the disciples at Pentecost, the subject of speaking in tongues while debated should not divide the body of Christ.

Spiritual gifts are found in four key passages in the Bible, Romans 12, l Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, and 1 Peter 4. Opinions differ over the actual number of gifts in those and other ancillary verses. Spiritual gifts differ from talents in that talents are given to unbelievers and spiritual gifts are given to believers when they are born again. Talents, like gifts, can and should be use to glorify God.

In my sanctified imagination, this is me at nine months asking, "What's inside these gifts?" Is it administration, apostleship, celibacy, discernment, evangelism, exhortation, faith, giving, healing, helps, hospitality, knowledge, leadership, martydom, mercy, miracles, missionary, pastor, prophecy, service, teaching, voluntary poverty, tongues, the interpretation of tongues, wisdom?

Do you know the difference between clairvoyance and the gift of prophecy? Is the office of apostleship the same today as it was in the first century? Did you know that people in the occult speak in tongues and chant "Jesus" to invoke the powers of darkness? The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:1, "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant." Satan is a master of the counterfeit. Research spiritual gifts thoroughly. Enroll in a spiritual gifts class, complete a spiritual gifts assessment, and don't "get it twisted."

The exercising of spiritual gifts not only makes us more effective Christians and strengthens our relationship with Jesus Christ, but also comes with a promise of protection against the attacks of the enemy, "Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:14-16 (NIV)."

The Detroit News carried a humorous little story about Bill Cosby's aged mother that illustrates how useless gifts are unless they are used. She had been raised in poverty, and the family had very little money as Bill was growing up. As a result, she never had modern conveniences and had gotten accustomed to doing things the hard way. When the children were old enough to get jobs, they often gave their mother appliances as Christmas gifts to make her life easier. But she wouldn't use them. Bill especially remembered that after a while his mother had two or three toasters. But she left them in their boxes and put them on top of the refrigerator. At breakfast she would still do the toast in the oven. If the boys protested, she would say, "Leave them on the refrigerator. I am used to doing it the old way."

An unopened or unused gift is no gift at all. Know what's inside your spiritual gifts, stir up your gifts, or in other words, develop and use them, and don't "get it twisted!"

Remember, it is not Mohammad, Buddha, Confucius, nor New Age that saves. Jesus saves!

Grow and Go with Whispers of God's Love!

Spiritual formation is the process whereby Christians are mended, saved and transformed into the image of Jesus Christ, in order that they might continue to comprehend, defend, and recommend Jesus to the world. Every believer has been called to grow up! The Bible has something to say about the importance of moving from bibs to aprons, from being fed to feeding others. The book of Ephesians has a lot to say to us about spiritual maturity. In it, the Apostle Paul gives practical advice for growing in our faith and sharing our faith with the world.
Ephesians 2:3 tells us we were once separated from God through sin. But having received God’s Gift of salvation, His only begotten Son, we have been “put right,” with Him, saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (vs 8-9). Because of God’s great love for us, therefore, believers have been mended.
God’s love for us is so great that Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus, that the church might be strengthen with the power to understand, or comprehend it (Ephesians 3: 14-19).

Paul reminds us that we are in spiritual battle. Our adversary is Satan. He instructs us in Ephesians 6 to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the wiles of the enemy. Regarding our faith then, it is the duty of all believers to defend it.

Paul says “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel…as I should” (Ephesians 6:19-20). Believers should not only grow in the faith, but share the faith with others. We should recommend it.

Jesus Saves Ministries is releasing this short eight-page e-booklet entitled, Whispers of God's Love - 2013.pdf, 2nd Edition, of original devotions and prayers by a few of the women bloggers, ministers, and evangelists on the Jesus Saves Social Network.

Jackie (Jazlyn) Lee, Columbia, MD;
Evangelist Felecia Spaulding, Lima, OH;
Evangelist Cynthia Glenn, Louisville, KY;

Min. Angela Lee Price, Louisville, KY.
These ladies are some of our most active bloggers and supporters this year. We hope "Whispers of God's Love," 2nd Edition, will aide and encourage you in mending, comprehending, defending, and recommending the gospel of Jesus Christ to others. Please download and share it with your friends, relatives, co-workers, church members, Christians who need to be strengthened in their trials, and the unsaved. Now, grow and go with whispers of God's love!

Louisville Basketball Has Chance to Win Both Men's and Women's Titles In Championship Games - BCNN1

Around midnight ET Monday, we should know whether something that's only happened once might happen again.

If the University of Louisville's men win the Division I basketball championship -- they play Michigan in a game set to start at 9:23 p.m. ET on CBS TV -- then there's a chance that this year both the men's and women's trophies will go to the same school.

The Louisville women are set to play Connecticut Tuesday night for the women's championship. That game airs at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The only time the men's and women's titles were won by teams from the same university in the same year was in 2004. The school: Connecticut.

What are the chances this year? Well, the Louisville men are favored against Michigan. But UConn is expected to defeat Louisville in the women's championship.

Consider this, though: The Louisville women have already pulled off what NPR's Mike Pesca called the "biggest upset in women's college basketball history." They beat Baylor earlier in the tournament, 82-81.
So, could this be the year?
