A Prayer t Break the Chains of Mental Illness

Father, in the matchless, mighty, holy name of Jesus we seek your face, your kingdom, and your righteousness! Father, you said in (Hebrews 11:6) that any man that comes to God must believe that He is God and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Father, we thank you for instructing us to cast all of our cares upon you, for it is that you care for us (1Peter 5:7). Father, we have the confidence, and assurance that when we come together, two or more, touching and agreeing on anything that you are in the midst of us (Matt 18:19).

Father, we thank you that your arms are not too short to save, neither are your ears to heavy that you cannot hear. (Isaiah 59:1). Father, we thank you for the spirit to pray for your people. We totally understand that there is no good thing within ourselves, however your word states that the Sons, and daughters of God shall be led by the spirit. (Romans 8:14). Father, Psalms 107:20 informs us that, “You sent your word, and brought healing to the people.” Father, we thank you for the shed blood of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. For He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5).

Father, you are a Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) that is able to do the exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can think or imagine (Eph 3:20:21). Father, were calling upon you to manifest your Glory in the lives of your people. We know that “what’s impossible with man is not impossible with God (Luke 18:27).

We seek supernatural healing on the behalf of those individuals that suffer from mental illness. Many, even our loved ones, suffer from schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety, mood disorders, hallucinations, hearing voices, and delusions. We pray for them and those who suffer from illness in their emotions, eating disorders, attitudes, and behaviors, impulsive control, and those that suffer from pyromania (starting fires), kleptomania (stealing), compulsive gambling, personality disorders, antisocial personality disorder, obsessive compulsive personality disorder, and adjustment disorders; dissociative disorders: people that suffer severe disturbances or changes in memory, consciousness, identity, split personality and psychosomatic disorders.

Father, we ask that you speak into the mind of these individuals “You shall live and not die and declare the works of the Lord” (Ps 118:17). We decree and declare that every demonic force, every thought will line up to the obedience to God. (2Cor10:2-6) Father, every mental demonic giant, wicked imagination, and everything that attempts to exalt itself against the knowledge of God must bow down to your word (Philippians 2:10). Father, your word shall take into captivity everything that is not like you.

Father, transform their minds to think upon things that are true, honest, pure, lovely, just, noble, praiseworthy and holy (Philippians 4:8). Your word, Father states that “if you be for us, you are more than those against us (Romans 8:31). Father, so we thank you for the peace that passes all understanding, (Philippians 4:7) upon all that shall keep their minds stayed on you. (Isaiah 26:3) We thank you now in the name of Jesus for uprooting and tearing down every false perception, every lie, every dysfunctional attitude, action and behavior, and bringing about liberation in the minds of your people.

In Jesus name: thank you for setting the captives free; “Who the Son sets free is free indeed” (John8:36)! Amen!

Jesus Saves Ministries Hosts Break Every Chain Prayer Breakfast

Jesus Saves Ministries and The Life Conference Suite presented the Break Every Chain Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 18th. The purpose for the prayer breakfast was two-fold, to start the year with prayer and fasting, a spiritual discipline that seems to be becoming a lost art; and to get social network members, who participated in the ministry's previous online prayer vigils, and new ministry partners, together for face-to-face prayer and fellowship.

Speakers included Rev. Michael Lee, Joshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Dorothy Nelson, New Destiny of Faith Kingdom Ministries International, Rev. Toni Hawkins, Open Door Christian Church and DIVAS for Christ, Stacee Spurling, St. Stephen Church; Evangelist Sherri Dunn, Wounded Warriors Ministries and Kingdom Fellowship Center; Tonya Miller, St. Stephen Church, and Min. LaQuita Gaskins, Shiloh City of Peace Foundation. Everyone shared why they selected their prayer subjects, powerful testimonies and prayers asking God to break chains of unemployment, obesity/chronic disease, mental illness, domestic violence, incarceration, education disparities, homelessness, and for the lost to be saved.
Pastor David Nelson, whose church, New Destiny Of Faith Kingdom Ministries International holds weekly services at The Life Conference Suite, gave the invocation. Attendees enjoyed pancakes and sausage links prepared by WLOU/WLLV Radio GM "Chef" Bill Price on his new griddle, orange juice and coffee. The breakfast was part of "Forward: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting," a Jesus Saves Social Network initiative based on The Lord's Prayer, specifically, Luke 11:2, "Thy Kingdom Come. Thy Will Be Done."
Afterwards, participants Stacee Spurling, Min. LaQuita Gaskins, and Tonya Miller, and attendee Pat Beckam posted these comments on the Jesus Saves Ministries Facebook page:

WLOU Radio Hosts "Dollars for Nikki," for Radio Personality Battling Cancer

On Friday, January 24th, WLOU GM Bill Price, and midday personality Ms. Krystal along Ms. Virginia Bradford, the Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer (KAAAC), the Kentucky Cancer Program hosted a special live call-in radio program and forum, "Dollars for Nikki," from 1-3 pm on PraizePower 1350 WLOU and The New Praize 104.7 FM. The purpose of the show was to raise donations for radio personality Nikki Love (Asia Ludlow) who is battling stage-four cancer, and to raise awareness of the prevalence and severity of breast cancer in African American women. Former radio colleagues from various stations in Louisville and across the country called in and spoke with Nikki, who participated by phone. Cancer survivors shared their testimonies also. A great many friends dropped by the station to lend their support.

It was a beautiful tribute to Asia Ludlow. At the end of the tribute, Asia spoke about how all the calls from former radio colleagues and friends from near and far who called into WLOU Radio filled her with joy. I told Asia she has joy because she knows how to spell "Joy," J-Jesus first, O-Others second; and Y-Yourself last. That is the recipe for joy, and it is oftentimes very hard to do in the midst of trial.

Rev. Kathy Goodwin, Pastor, Coke Memorial United Methodist Church dropped off a donation stating we often wait until its too late to give people their flowers, crowding funeral homes and churches with wonderful sentiments for the deceased, but that's not how it should be done. We should give people their flowers while they yet live. Heavenly Father, We need to be more like You in all that our hands are put to do, more like You that we may discern the tricks of the enemy. Lord, many come broken and heavy in spirit. We need more of You so we can stand that others may see the battle is already won. Lord, we are standing in the need of prayer for Your Holy Ghost. And It's by Your grace that we are here today in the new year of 2014. Lord, we need more of Your Grace, please have mercy, Lord so we can serve and help build up the Kingdom. Lord, somebody needs a safe home and a caring family. Someone is in need of finances, healing to their body and many are waiting for direction because the lack of knowledge. Lord, send that helping hand! People of this world have gone astray, and You are the only Savior to a dying world.
Father, we need more of You within us so Your Word will manifest power upon the earth, that power to heal the sick and raise the dead, Holy Ghost power to tread and bind up that ole devil and cast out every demon and cut them at the roots. More power, Lord! You have all power in Your mighty Hands. Thank you, Lord for keeping us lifted up, for watching over us, and making ways out of no way! Thank you, Lord for Your mighty power filling us up and keeping us whole. In Jesus Name.. You are the Savior to a dying world....Amen!

Min. Angela Speaks with DaniRob, Opening Singer on Fred Hammond's Tour

This is Danielle Roberson Jones, DaniRob, the beautiful and gifted gospel artist sportin' the Louisville shirt. She opened for Fred Hammond and the United Tenors on the "Everybody Get Up Tour" this year. DaniRob was the only female artist on the 21-date tour singing songs she wrote, "In Your Presence," and "Forgive," among others.  The tour was in Louisville on Oct. 4th at Bates Memorial Baptist Church. DaniRob and I had an awesome conversation on PraisePower 1350 WLOU and the new Praize 104.7 radio on Monday, December 23rd as I sat in for afternoon announcer, Mr. P who was on vacation. DaniRob, a newlywed from San Antonio, Texas, spent Christmas with her huaband's family in Louisville.  Big shout out to Don and Beverly Jones, and their son Montez Jones, DaniRob's husband.

This Joy I Have!

How is your joy on this Word-filled Wednesday? Joy is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). As we grow in our relationship with God, we should bear much fruit, including joy. The story of Mary's visit with her cousin Elizabeth teaches us about joy. Elizabeth told Mary "As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy" (Luke 1:44). What is important here is that both mother and baby responded to Mary's voice. At the sound of Mary's voice, baby John, "leaped for joy." The Bible says we can know the tree by the fruit it bears. (Matt. 12:33). The fruit of Elizabeth's womb contained the future heralder of the coming King, and in the presence of God, the unborn Savior of the world (pre-natal, don't miss that, yet God), baby John received by way of the Holy Spirit on the job training as he leaps, not for fear or trepidation, but for joy! And Elizabeth was six months pregnant at the time. John the Baptist says this about himself near the end of his ministry of repentance and baptism, "The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He (Jesus) must become greater. I must become less" (John 3:29-30).

The Scriptures tell us John the Baptist was joyful his entire life, from the womb to the tomb. In fact, the angel of the Lord appeared to John's father, Zechariah saying, "Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord" (Luke 1:13-15). Although John the Baptist had some difficult days, and was beheaded, his joy was centered in doing the will of God. John was a voice crying in the wilderness. He prepared the way for Jesus Christ (John 1:23) How is your joy today? Don't let the devil steal your joy. The joy of the Lord is your strength (Nehemiah: 8:10). Take joy with you to work, to school, and to Bible Study. Take joy with you when you visit family and friends this Christmas. Joy to the world! The Lord is come. Let earth receive her King! This joy I have the world didn't give it to me, and the world can't take it away!

Grace is Free, But It's Not Cheap

Like a cheap suit, cheap grace does not look good on you! Dietrich Bonhoeffer once defined "cheap grace" as the justification of sin without the justification of the sinner. He saw preachers preaching forgiveness without requiring repentance, priests offering absolution without personal confession, disciples proclaiming to follow Jesus without a willingness to take up their cross. This, he said is cheap grace. Bonhoeffer’s life became a living mirror of costly grace. He was arrested for helping some Jews escape Nazi Germany and later was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler. He was hanged just three days before the Allied forces arrived. Bonhoeffer was willing to take up his cross and follow Jesus, not matter the cost.

What then is grace? Grace is unmerited favor. Unmerited favor does not give believers freedom to live life however they choose, freely committing all manner of sin. Grace is God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. Grace is the imputed righteousness of Christ in our lives through His death on the cross and the power of His resurrection. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, instituted the new covenant, a change from living by the legalism and the Law to living by the grace and the Spirit. This means Christians are not bound by rules and regulations, observing traditions, dietary restrictions, special days and the like in our relationship with God. The bible says in John chapter 1, “the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” Paul states, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and it is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:8-9). God paid a the ultimate price for our freedom in Christ, the life of His one and only Son. We are to do good works, therefore, not to be saved, but because we are saved. So, Paul rightly asked, "What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning, that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer (Romans 6:1-2)? Pentecost instituted the covenant of grace and God wants it understood that grace is free, but not cheap!

Min Angela Interviews Gospel Artist Fred Hammond, Coming to Louisville Friday, October 4th
I had the awesome opportunity to interview Fred Hammond on the "Mr. P In the Afternoon" radio show on Thursday, September 19th on PraizePower 1350 WLOU and the New Praize 104.7. Not only is Fred Hammond one of the greatest cutting-edge gospel innovators of our day, he is passionate in his call to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through medium of gospel music. He shared about how his mentor, Bishop Marvin Winans "took him to school" very early in his career, on being the originator of urban praise and worship in introducing the praise team concept to the black church (previously prevalent only in white churches), his method of rearranging classic traditional gospel songs, and reintroducing them to this generation, and how he step out on faith to establish his production company after being inspired by and having seen what producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Prince were doing with their companies. He spoke to high divorce rate in the church as inspiration behind the project, "God, Love and Romance."
One of our callers asked about Hammond's relationship with Bishop T.D. Jakes as Hammond is often spotted in the audience sitting on the third row on The Potter's House television program. Hammond moved from Detroit to Dallas and has been attending The Potter's House for eight years. Oh, and Fred, I feel like we are on first-name basis now (LOL!), shared that his father is originally from Louisville and that he is related to some of the Hammonds from Louisville. There was so much more I wanted to talk about but time just wouldn't permit. Needless to say, we are in for an awesome worship experience on Friday, October 4th when Fred Hammond and the United Tenors come to Louisville. Keep listening to WLOU for the exciting details!

Morton, one of my husband's favorite national gospel singers. Bishop Morton for the guest speaker at Canaan Christian Church on Sunday, September, 15th, closing out special services for 30th Pastoral Celebration for Pastor Walter and Sandra Malone.

The Sin Nobody Talks About, Part 1

Though nobody talks about it much these days, the Apostle Paul had a lot to say about sin. The next few posts will examine Paul's concept of sin from several of his New Testament letters beginning with the book of Romans.
What is sin? Sin has been defined as "missing the mark." Sin leads to complete separation from God. Paul declares, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23). In the broadest sense, sin entered the world through the first man Adam in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:6). As a result of the fall of man, all of mankind is born with a sin nature, or is shaped in equity (Rom. 3:23 and 5:12).

In a narrow sense, there are two kinds of sins in the Bible, sins of commission and omission. A sin of commission is doing what one knows is wrong, or willfully breaking the law. Paul states “Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Conversely, sin of omission is not doing what one knows is right to do. The Bible declares, “Anyone, then who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.” (James 4:17).
Paul’s concept of sin in the book of Romans points to faith in Jesus Christ as a free gift of grace from God as the answer for forgiveness of sin. Paul has more to say on sin in Romans than in any other Pauline epistle. The following Scriptures are a few of many in Romans on sin:

• What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one;” Rom. 3:9-10
• Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. Rom. 3:20
• But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom. 5:8
• For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners; so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 5:19-21
• What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Rom. 6:1-2
• For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Rom. 6:6-7.

How can you be saved and go to heaven?
I'm glad you asked. Here is some alphabet soup, the A-B-C's of salvation:
A - Ask Jesus to forgive your sins.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
"If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved." Romans 10:9
B - Believe that Jesus died on the Cross to take the punishment for your sins.
"God demonstrated his love for us in this, while we were sinners Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
C - Call on Jesus to save you.
"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13, Acts 2:2.1, John 3:3.
