Dr. Julia Hare to "WOW" W.O.W. Conference in Louisville

By: Angela Lee Price

Saturday, April 15, 2006 was a good "hare" day on the radio. No, not because many children were eating chocolate bunny rabbits and hunting Easter eggs. It was a good "hare" day because Drs. Julia Hare was in the house on WLOU!

Dr. Julia Hare, National Executive Director of The Black Think Tank, Social Psychologist, Relationships Specialist, Radio and TV commentator, is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic presenters on major podiums today and remains in high demand for presentations to civic/social corporate and political organizations. She was the keynote speaker for the Wesley House Circle of Caring Dinner on Thursday, April 20th at the Humana Building, 500 West Main Street. She really WOWed them!

One of the most brillant women in America spoke with me briefly by phone from California about her upcoming visit to Louisville. Among other things, she told me she and Tavis Smiley had shared the stage to discuss the book, Covenant With Black America and providing solutions to issues plaguing African Americans. Yes, it was a good "hare" day indeed!

Dr. Julia Hare was one of the 25 leaders, experts, and policymakers sharing the platform for the State of the Black Union Summit in Hampton, Virginia this year. Dr. Julia Hare was off the chain in the second panel discussion. It took the audience a good 20 minutes to compose themselves after she answered a question in typical Hare fashion. Of all that was said, her comments stand out vividly in my mind some three weeks after watching the summit on C-Span on February 10th. More than 10,000 people* attended the day-long summit. She really "WOWed" them!

If you haven't heard Dr. Hare, my radio interview with her last year will give you a good idea of what you don't want to miss at the Women of Wisdom Conference, Saturday, March 17th at St. Stephen Church.

Prepare to be WOWed! For additional information about the WOW Conference, click on the St. Stephen Church link on the right side of this blog.

Jesus Saves Ministries Shares Love for Jesus Christ

By: Angela Lee Price

God loves you and so does Jesus Saves Ministries. Our mission is to share God’s love for the world by addressing topics of concern to the Black Church and African American community through a worldwide internet ministry, and by presenting workshops, seminars, forums, conferences, and Christian events that uplift God's Kingdom.

Also, our mission is to raise public awareness on aberrant and heretical teachings adversely affecting Christians and un-believers alike. Ephesians 4:14-16 says, "Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ" (NIV). Our slogan is "Remember, it is not Mohammad, Buddha, Confucius, nor New Age that saves!"

In our inaugural year 2005-2006, Jesus Saves Ministries partnered with Louisville-area churches, schools, and agencies including St. Stephen Church, Simmons College of Kentucky, Cable Baptist Church, Hill Street Baptist Church, Corinthian Baptist Church, Spillman Memorial Church, Canaan Christian Church, Broadway Corridor LLC, Wesley House Community Services, Women’s Evangelical Network, Seven Counties Services, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and WLOU Radio to present a variety of events, a church school Bible trivia contest, honorary awards dinner, honorary awards gala, Christian play, women in ministry forum, career in radio workshop, and several gospel events. Additionally, Jesus Saves Ministries conducted radio interviews with nationally-known speakers, Rev. Dr. Freddie Haynes, Tavis Smiley, and Dr. Julia Hare, Jean Claude LaMarre, Dr. Gary Gilley, local pastors, and community leaders.

On January 5, 2006, Jesus Saves Ministries launched this blog on the internet. The blog features articles by Angela Lee Price, Founder & President of Jesus Saves Ministries, and contributing writers, on topics of concern to the black church and Christian community. The blog makes it convenient for internet users to post comments to articles and sermons, link to websites, and e-mail the ministry. Articles published in Jesus Saves Ministries Newsletters are available on the blog, along with video and audio clips, links to other websites, and great research.

Jesus Saves Ministries thanks Rev. Syvoskia Bray, President & CEO, Women's Evangelical Network; Rev. Michael Lee, Associate Minister & Sunday School Superintendent, Joshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church; Rev. Vincent Bland, Artist N Residence, St. Stephen Church; Dr. Renee Campbell Mapp, President & CEO, Wesley House Community Services; and Raoul Cunningham, President, Louisville Chapter NAACP for contributing articles to the Jesus Saves Newsletter and this blog during our inaugural year.

For information on scheduling Jesus Saves Ministries for your next event, subscribing to the monthly newsletter, or to be added to the weekly e-distribution, please write the ministry at P.O. Box 1284, Louisville, KY 40201, call 502-495-0902, or e-mail Angela Lee Price at aleeprice@bellsouth.net.

A Good Hare Day On WLOU Radio

By: Angela Lee Price

Saturday, April 15th was a good "hare" day on the radio. No, not because many children were eating chocolate bunny rabbits and hunting Easter eggs. It was a good "hare" day because Drs. Julia Hare and Renee Campbell Mapp were in the house on WLOU!

She will be the keynote speaker for the Wesley House Circle of Caring Dinner on Thursday, April 20th at the Humana Building, 500 West Main Street.

One of the most brillant women in America spoke with me briefly by phone from California about her upcoming visit to Louisville. Among other things, she told me she and Tavis Smiley recently shared the stage to discuss the book, Covenant With Black America and providing solutions to issues plaguing African Americans. Yes, it was a good "hare" day indeed!

Dr. Renee Campbell Mapp is President & CEO of Wesley House Community Services, 803 East Washington Street. Dr. Campbell Mapp has done a fabulous job over eight years in putting Wesley House on the map in the Phoenix/Butchertown district. Dr. Campbell Mapp and I often joke about having two last names with no hyphen. Saturday, however, our phone conversation centered on how this year's Circle of Caring honoree WAVE-3 TV news anchor Dawne Gee was selected to receive an award for providing hope to the community.

Below are five-minute excerpts of my interviews with Drs. Hare and Campbell Mapp. It is my hope that you will prayerfully consider supporting the Circle of Caring Dinner by purchasing tickets or with a contribution in any amount. I have seen first hand the tremendous work that is being done for women at Wesley House Community Services.

Tickets are $100.00 per person, or $1,500 for a table of 10. To reserve seats, contact Dr. Renee Campbell Mapp at 583-8317.

Wesley House is a 103-year-old social services agency located in the Butchertown/Phoenix Hill neighborhoods of Metro Louisville. This agency that many say is “a best kept secret” provides childcare, youth and family services, financial literacy classes, computer education, and a gently used clothing store called the Wesley Wearhouse.

Wesley House is having its annual Circle of Caring Dinner on April 20th, and is proud to announce that Dr. Julia Hare will be providing the keynote address. Dr. Hare is one of the most sought-after speakers on college campuses, and she dazzles and energizes her audiences with her bold talk of community, marriage and love.

The Wesley House Circle of Caring Dinner is one of Wesley House’s major fund raising events and honors someone in the community that has created hope and opportunity. Past honorees have been Ed Hamilton, Rev. Dr. Kevin Cosby, Denny Crum, Margaret Grissom, and Jim Seagrest.

Wesley House is proud to announce that this year’s honoree will be WAVE TV 3 News Anchor Dawne Gee. Angela Lee Price of Jesus Saves Ministries and WLOU Radio will be the mistress of ceremonies.
