The Jesus Story and Forgiveness Cont'd

By: Min. Angela Lee Price

"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny" (Matthew 5:23-26 NIV).

Often on Fridays, I tweet, "T.G.I.F., Thank God I'm Forgiven (And It's Friday)! I teach Spiritual Gifts at church, and often in Spiritual Gifts class, I will use the acromyn "TGIF" as an icebreaker by asking members to unscramble it to form new words, phrases, and sentences. This exercise helps each person to understand that they have at least one "GIFT," and they "FIT IT," because they are "GIFT-IT" of God to do the work that He has called them to do (Ephesians 4:7-8).
The whole discussion of forgiveness is important because the Bible places forgiveness above or before giftedness, "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
It is sad to see gifted people at odds with each other in the church. What is worse is to see bickering parties continue their anomosity for years, even decades. However, the Bible says not only is there a frequency within which we are to forgive, seven times seventy (Matt. 18:21), but that there is a timeframe within which we are to forgive, "quickly" (v 25). We should do everything we can to resolve our differences often and to settle them out of court, Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge (v 25).
To Forgive or not to forgive?, that is the question. Jesus forgave the unfaithful wife of her sin (John 8:7). Will you forgive someone in your life of their sin? Have we truly forgiven white America for 400 years of oppression? Unforgiveness can cause us to be bound when we stand before Judge Hatchett, Judge Mathis, Judge Judy, or Judge Joe Brown! Forgiveness, brothers and sisters, keeps us out of Divorce Court, The People's Court, the court of public opinion, and most importantly, it keeps us out of God's court where the devil and his demons stand ready to accuse.

If you have something against someone, choose to forgive them and then bring your gifts to God or, "the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny" (v26).

Today, I want to share with you an example of what Jesus can do for us when we choose to forgive. The following is a comment left on one of my blogposts, Jesus Saves Gangsters, Too, at http://www.jesussavesministries.blogspot.com/ in December 2009.

I would like to share my experience, strength and hope with another person. I was shot point blank in the back of the head by my cousin, AND JESUS SAVED ME. I am able to function normally. I have had no serious side affects as a result of this. I not only over came the injury but after 10 years I am able to say through the help of Jesus I forgave my cousin for trying to kill me.

Your statement is a testimony to the power of Almighty God! Thank you so much for sharing it. It has blessed me and I have sent it on to others to bless them too. Forgiveness takes the offender off your hook and puts him on God's hook where he belongs. Praise be to God for the conviction he gave you to forgive. The world would be a better place if only we could forgive one another.

God bless you!

"But ye are a chosen generation a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praise of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;" 1 Peter 2:9.
Today is Ash Wednesday.  It begins Lenten season. In Western Christianity, Lent is 40 days of fasting and repentance in preparation for Resurrection Sunday (Easter), this year on April 8th. First Lady Michelle Obama to Speak at Kentucky Center for African American Heritage on February 23rd

By: Min. Angela Lee Price
Fresh off recent appearances on BET Honors and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, first lady Michelle Obama will be speaking at a fundraiser at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage on Thursday, and the local community is abuzz. Michelle OBama is popular among African American women. Do you think she will be a transforming figure as relates to the role of women in the black church?  If you are from Louisville, do you think her visit will spur economic growth for the struggling Kentucky Center for African American Heritage and adjacent West Louisville community? One of her platforms is childhood obesity.  What other subjects would you like to see her address on her visit to Louisville, the home of Jesus Saves Ministries?
Here is a sampling of what the first lady has said in the book, Michelle Obama In Her Own Words:

About her husband, President Obama:
"I told him if this isn't leading to marriage, then, you know, don't waste by time." Page 44.
"You want to know how Barack prepares for a debate? He hangs out with me, and he's ready." Page 49.
"He's not just going to tell you what you think you want to hear." Page 78.
"Barack is one of the few men I've met who is not intimidated by strong women. He relishes the fact that I'm not impressed by him." Page 74.
"He's a gifted man, but in the end, he's just a man." Page 75.

The book, Michelle Obama In Her Own Words, edited by Lisa Rogak is on the Black History Give-Away List in the Celebrating Black History Group this week on the Jesus Saves Social Network!

Happenings On the Jesus Saves Social Network - February 21st

Water From A Rock
By: Min. Angela Lee Price
Praise the Lord, Everybody! What a powerful Sunday school lesson we had at our church on this weekend! The lesson was entitled, "Water From A Rock," Numbers 20:1-13; 1 Corinthians 10:1-5. This story sheds light on why Moses was not allowed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land.
Many people say God was too harsh on Moses in not allowing him to go into the Promised Land. God had specific reasons for why He wanted things done a certain way. Speaking to the Rock who is Jesus Christ is what we should do when we are in need today. We should take all of our problems to the Lord in prayer. I can't imagine swinging at God, pushing or shoving Him to get my way.
It is true the Moses wasn't allowed to go into the Promised Land, but people fail to realize that almost all of the adults, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, were not allowed to go in either. The people murmured constantly, romanticized their bondage in Egypt, failed to obey God, built the Golden calf, and much more.
This is not to excuse Moses' harsh treatment of the people either. Moses gave the impression that he saved them, that he performed the miracle and not God. Ministry can be difficult and Satan loves to attack us in ways to discredit our witness. This is why we must pray for people in leadership, and how best to present our concerns to them respecting that God has given them authority.
Remember, Jesus Christ is the Living Water. His well never runs dry. In your wilderness experience, don't talk back to Satan or your adversaries. Speak to Jesus about your troubles, and obey His voice. He will see you through!
Click the link for more principles from this story and additional discussion. Share a main point, a highlight from this lesson or your lesson with us! We'd like to hear from you! The Word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our pathways!

By: A Debt of Love, Joyce Vaughn
"Oh how I love Jesus, Oh how I love Jesus, Oh how I love Jesus, because He first loved me," has always been one of my favorite spirituals. I think it sums up Jesus' love for us and ours for Him. Genesis Chapter 1 is about the Creation. What we learn from this is that God chose to create the universe, and the reason for this was because of His love.
Love is often called a debt. In Romans 13:8, it explains that we owe a "continuing debt to love one another. for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law." The reason for love being referred to as a debt is because we are permanently in debt to Jesus for all of His love that He has displayed on us. (click above link to continue)

Three More Winners Announced on Thursday Afternoon!
Win movie passes to see Red Tails:
The thrilling true story of the Tuskegee Airmen buzzes to the big screen in this epic war adventure from executive producer George Lucas and first-time feature director Anthony Hemingway. In the fire and chaos of World War II, the U.S. military recruits a fearless group of African-American fighter pilots to help reclaim the skies over Europe. Discriminated against both as citizens and as soldiers, the Tuskegee Airmen take flight in planes distinguished by distinctive red tails, and fight to defeat the tyranny of the Axis powers. As a result of their bravery, the pilots emerge as true heroes, and prove that all men are truly created equal. Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Bryan Cranston star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Win movie passes to see Joyful Noise!
Hard times have fallen on Pacashau, Ga., but the townspeople have faith that the Divinity Church Choir will lift their spirits by winning a national competition. The choir has always made beautiful music, but now, its two leading ladies have hit a sour note. Vi Rose (Queen Latifah) believes that a traditional style is the key to victory, but G.G. (Dolly Parton) thinks tried-and-true means tired-and-old. The two singers must find a harmonious chord or risk losing everything.

Whitney Houston's Funeral Saturday Will Be Aired On TV - BCNN1

Saturday's funeral for legendary pop singer Whitney Houston is expected to be made available for television and web streaming from the New Jersey church where she grew up, Houston's publicist said Wednesday.

The services, to be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, will be in a much smaller, more intimate setting than the concert halls and arenas Houston packed during her heyday. In every sense, she will be going home.

Publicists and entertainers by Wednesday had confirmed nearly a dozen celebrities and personalities will be in some of the 1,500 coveted, "invitation-only" seats. No public memorial is planned. Although the family is not commenting on Houston's burial location, her death certificate filed Wednesday in Los Angeles lists it as Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. A message left by CNN with the cemetery office was not immediately returned.

Gospel singer and pastor Marvin L. Winans, a longtime friend of the Houston family, will give the eulogy at New Hope Baptist Church. Winans officiated at Houston's 1992 marriage ceremony to R&B singer Bobby Brown. Aretha Franklin, Houston's godmother, has been asked to sing at the funeral, which begins at noon, Franklin's spokeswoman said. Others confirmed on the guest list are Chaka Khan, Bebe & CeCe Winans, songwriter Diane Warren, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Antonio "L.A." Reid, Ray J and Brandy.

Houston's cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, was in New Jersey helping the family with funeral arrangements, Warwick's publicist said Chaka Khan was a close friend of Houston. Reid produced many of Houston's songs and Jakes co-produced Houston's last film, "Sparkle," which is scheduled to be released this summer. Houston and Jakes are listed as producers.

Ray J, a hip-hop artist, and Houston dated off and on after she was divorced from Brown. Jackson and the Winans music family have been very close friends of the Houstons. Click here to read more.

Congats to Jesus Saves Scramble Board Winner

Congratulations to Brittany Thurman, our Jesus Saves Scramble Board winner! Brittney's answer: "So far these are the words I could find within TGIF!! ' I, Fig, It, Fit, If, Gift."
Brittany wins lunch on us, a $10 TGI Friday's gift card from the Jesus Saves Social Network
Join us in lifting up Jesus Christ and participate on the Jesus Saves Social Network this month and your name will be entered in our Black History gift give-aways!
Answers (From Min. Angela Lee Price)
In the spirit of the Soul Train Scramble Board, we present the Jesus Saves Scramble Board.  When we unscramble "TGIF," we get the word "GIFT" - Jesus Christ is our Perfect Gift (John 3:16). He died for our sins.  "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:24). Additionally, God has given believers at least one spiritual gift for the work of ministry (1 Peter 4:10-11).
There are words, "I," and "FIT" and "IT." From "TGIF" comes this sentence, "I FIT GIFT" or "GIFT: I FIT IT." God doesn't make mistakes. You fit the gift(s) God has given you! The mistake that we make as Christians is we don't stir up our gifts (2 Tim. 1:6).
There is "FIT" - The Word of God is the foundation of our relationship with God. His sheep know His voice because we study to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15, 19). We "GIT FIT" by attending Sunday school, Bible Study, and small groups! " Also, we must "GIT FIT"  physically, too through exercise. How can we reach our purpose if we can't read, write, and reach........our toes!? "Git fit!"
From "TGIF" we get the word "FIG." Jesus cursed the fig tree because it did not bear fruit (Matt. 21:18-21). Figs generally appear on fig trees in February, followed by leaves, which are not formed until late Spring. Jesus cursed the tree because it was well past fruit-bearing season, yet it still unproductive. It is February. Is there spiritual fruit on your tree? The Bible states in Luke 13:8, "And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down." Let's do what God requires and bear much fruit (Gal. 5:22).

From "TGIF" is phonetically the word -- "GIFT-IT." Christians have been given Spiritual Gifts for the work of ministry. We are not saved to sit, but to serve. Ephesians 2: 10 (HCSB) states, "For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them."

After you have meditated on this, hopefully, you will say, "I GIT IT!" I am "GIFT-IT!" So praise God for your spiritual gifts and fruit! I praise Him for all the gifts He has given you and me! You are GIFT-IT!

Even Though Many People Do Not Take the Eddie Long Being Crowned 'King' Thing Seriously, Rev. Wil Gafney, Ph.D., Professor of Biblical Hebrew and Jewish Scholar says the Ceremony Was Wrong On 27 Counts - BCNN1

A number of religious figures have stepped up criticizing the 14-minute long YouTube clip of Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church being proclaimed a "king" by a Messianic rabbi. Rabbi Ralph Messer, during a Jan. 29 service at the Baptist church in Lithonia, Ga., directed assistants to wrap Long in a purportedly 312-year-old priceless Hebrew scroll from World War II, and proclaimed that Long was now "hidden in the word of God." After inviting Long to sit down on a chair and handing him the Torah scroll, four helpers lifted the chair on which Long was sitting and paraded the minister across the podium, while Messer proclaimed him a "king." The rabbi went on to say that Long sits between two courts, the court of justice and the court of blessings. Worshipers in attendance applauded as the minister was ushered about in the air on the chair as the ceremony continued. Messer, who leads Simchat Torah Beit Midrash (STBM) - a congregation promoting interfaith discussions - teaches principles of the Torah that he claims "produce life" or prosperity. Happenings on the Jesus Saves Social Network - February

Jesus Saves Ministries Conducts YOUnique Gifts Workshop
On Saturday, January 28th, Min. Angela Lee Price conducted the second in a series of "New Year, New You" workshops, entitiled "YOUnique Gifts and Talents" at Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church here in Louisville. Approximately 25 women came out for the "Women On Fire for God" Women Ministry's monthly meeting. The Ladies received information on the importance of using their spiritual gifts, discussed the difference between gifts and talents, and completed spiritual gift assessments.
This was a glorious workshop! There was great dialogue. Some women received confirmation on what they're to do this year while others were surprised by what their assessments revealed.
The Holy Spirit was present, and everyone seemed to have been inspired to either use or begin using their gifts! Min. Angela told them that there are too many people sitting on the premises instead of standing on the promises in the body of Christ. As a result we have people being "toss to and fro by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:16). The more people operating in their gifts, the less burnout there will be, and the stronger the church will be! We serve an AWESOME God, and our primary mission is to accomplish His will on earth, "thy Kingdom come, thy will be done!" This can only be done as each of us is mobilized to serve in our proper places in the body of Christ.
Post Your Response to One or More Discussion Topic!
1. What is the between a spiritual gift and a talent?
2. Should a teacher in the public school system automatically become a Sunday school teacher after joining your church? Why or why not?
3. Should a person who can't sing join the choir? Why or why not?
4. Had Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. NOT stirred up the gift of preaching, what ONE effect or event because of him would you miss the most?
Jesus Saves Scramble Board: TGIF
In the spirit of the Soul Train Scramble Board, we present the Jesus Saves Scramble Board. See if you can unscramble "TGIF." Move the letters around and post as many words as you can find within "TGIF" below. For example, "I" is a word within TGIF. The acronym "TGIF" means Thank God It's Friday" to many people, but, for us it means "Thank God I'm Forgiven." After you have found all the words, see if you can form a sentence relating to spiritual gifts with your some of your new words. One participating person will receive lunch on us, a $10 gift card to TGIFridays Restuarant! The winner will be announced Monday, February February 6th at 12 Noon.
Featured Member: Min. Robert Jamison
Minister Robert Jamison was hesitant, at first, about the call that God had put on his life. As he exclaims,I did what a lot of us do when we hear God calling us into the ministry. I ran from my call; however the death of my beloved mother ushered in a need for me to take the call that God had given me, more seriously. Jamison responded to this need by forming the gospel ensemble, Robert Jamison and Victory, in 2009. He is also proud to say that he preached his initial sermon on March 27th, 2011.
He is pleased to announce the release of his first CD titled "Speak Myself Free." Robert Jamison understands the importance of music as a ministry. A music ministry must deliver the word of God in song. The message brings others to Christ as well as encourages one to continue on. He says, "It fills my soul when I sing songs of praise." This comes from a man who knows the truth about God’s saving grace. As this was the same God, that saved him from the stronghold of alcoholism.

The Jesus Saves Social Network is Celebrating Black History the month of February. Angela Lee Price to speak at your church, conference, or gospel event, e-mail her at jesussaves1@insightbb.com or call 502-415-1001.
