After Many Southern Baptists Turned Their Backs on Him, Rev. Joel C. Gregory Found a Suprising Friend in the Black Church - BCNN1

I have written about Rev. Joel Gregory and his book, What We Love About Black Churches: Can We Get A Witness, at least twice in the last two months. Go to the search box on the right, enter his name or the book title to find previous posts. Here is an interesting article about his background. I hope to purchase and read the book soon. It's on my long, long list of things to do.

Congrats 2010 Grads of Jesus Saves Social Network Members!

Congratulations 2010 Graduates,

All of you deserve to be honored for your educational accomplishment, for graduation is a holy ceremony. It is the time to publicly give honor to God for helping us to succeed. Today, we honor God for what He has done in your lives. May your degree, coupled with your spiritual gifts enable you to accomplish the goods works God has called you to do.

Recognition is honorable and helps us to highlight the milestones in our lives. Many steps make up the ladder of achievement. That process involves prayer, faith, hard work, and the support of family, friends, and the clergy, staff, and members of your church families. Knowledge gained and lessons learned are tools that can help us be better servants, more loving, and Christ like. Education is an act of grace: a gift of God’s loving-kindness that can give us insight and hope for the future.

Congratulations to:

Alexis Goodwin, Clark Atlanta, University, BA, Theatre Arts, May 2010.

Brittany Carter, University of West Georgia, BA, May 2010.

Rev. Eileen Little, Simmons College of KY, BA, Religious Studies, May 2010.

Rev. Dr. Kilen Gray, Simmons College Of Kentucky, Honorary Doctor of Divinity, May 2010.

We're Celebrating Our 2010 Graduates:
If you are graduating in the spring or summer, post your name, school, degree and graduation date on our Congratuations Gradutes Blog Post or in the Praise Break Group.  We want to recognize this mighty move of God in your life.  If your husband or wife is graduating this year, we want to celebrate them too.  All graduates will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Jesus Saves Newsletter.  One graduate will be blessed to receive a Jesus Saves Ministries Graduation Gift Basket on June 3rd.  The offer limited to US residences only.

Events:
If your church or ministry is having an event that you'd like our members to know about, add it to the Events Page by clicking on the Events link at the top of your page.  Be sure to include a flyer or picture to enhance your event.

Blog Posts:
I would like to ask particularly preachers, pastors, ministers, teachers, those of you with published materials, and with your own Christian websites elsewhere to consider sharing samples of your written material with us as blog posts, devotions, poems, sermon excerpts, prayers or whatever it is the Lord has given you.  I would like to feature blog posts more often, but find it difficult when there is not much participation or when only one or two people do all the writing.  Do not sit on your gifts.  I encourage you to use them here, too to the glory of God.

Government Photographer Asked Church Volunteers Not to Wear Religious T-Shirts in Video About Tornado Aftermath - BCNN1

By: Min. Angela Lee Price
This is what I'm talking about right here.  Christians are often criticized for not doing enough in the community to help those in need.  The criticism is justified oftentimes, but when we come not only willing and ready to work, but bearing our Cross, not just on the inside, but on the outside for the world to see, then don't attempt to pass us off, media people, as just another group of Christless do-gooders out there one-upping the Christians.  That is basically what happened in this story.  A FEMA photographer attempted to cover up, circumvent even, the role the faith based community played recently in helping tornado survivors pick up the pieces of their windblown lives.  He told church volunteers to take off their Christian t-shirts before going on camera in his video. This FEMA administrator apologized for the blunder.

Dr. Glaude, "Who Signed the Death Certificate on the Black Church?" As a White Brother Looking In, "the Black Church is Energetic, Living, and Flourishing" - BCNN1

Dr. Joel C. Gregory, left, is Professor of Preaching, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Baylor University

The past decade has afforded me an opportunity rarely found in recent American church culture. For a complex of reasons I have become a white preacher in black churches. I have spoken before more than 200 African American congregations, conferences, and conventions in more than twenty states each year.

From coast to coast and border to border, in urban centers and small towns, I have preached in America's black churches. These include not only black Baptist congregations but African Methodist Episcopal, Church of God in Christ, and other historically black denominations.

From that experience, I am at a loss for an explanation of Dr. Glaude's statement that the black church is dead. If it is, I do not know who signed the death certificate or notified the next of kin. In every way I can measure vitality, the black church is energetic, living, and flourishing.

Praising God For Mother!

Nat3ddesign Graphics
Guardians Tag Ministry
Here is an opportunity to praise God for mother.  She brought you into this world, and let her tell it, she will take you out. Where would you be without her in your life? What specifically has she done to help you become the Christian man or woman you are today? Take a praise break with Jesus Saves Ministries and praise God for your mother, grandmother, foster mother, God mother, aunt, or that special female who has been a God-fearing mother and nurturer to you.

Add a brief note to your mother to the bottom of this blog post on the Jesus Saves Social Network letting her know how much you appreciate her.

Example:

"Dear Mom (Grandmama, Big Mama, etc.),

I was thinking about you and all the Godly advice you have given me throughout the years. You have always been there for me and I can't begin to say how much I appreciate you for all the Godly advice you blessed me with.

Love,

Your daughter/son"
