A Prayer in Time of Trouble - The Florida Panhandle

Heavenly Father, You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. You are in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; You will help it when the morning dawns. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge (Psalm 46).  Just weeks ago, Father it was Hurricane Florence, and now Hurricane Michael beats against the Florida Panhandle with force never before seen in that region. Father, we prayed then and we're praying now. No other help we know! The wind and waves beat against the shores! Yet, you are God! Speak now we pray, saying, "Peace! Be still! (Matthew 8:23-27).

Even in this time of trouble, oh Lord, trouble don't last always! Even in this time of trouble, oh Lord, joy comes in the morning! For we stand on your Word and we believe your promises! Increase your loving hand of protection upon people in the path of this violent category 4 storm. Rescue those in harms way today, we pray from the wind and waves.  Shower down medics, oh Lord, first responders, and volunteers to help the needy.  We pray for the Florida Panhandle today, for your very present help in trouble, for salvation, deliverance and victory found only in You. To you, Lord, be glory, power,  dominion, and honor both now and forever! In Jesus name, Amen.

A Prayer for Military Families

Heavenly Father

You are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You are our strong and mighty tower and fortress. We bow to Your sovereign will.

I come to you on behalf of military families everywhere. Please protect our service men and women and their families.  Bring strength and comfort to those who may have lost loved ones in war. Help us as civilians become more sensitive to the horrors of war, post traumatic stress, and the specific needs of our veterans.

Father, like Langston Hughes, so many military families are asking, "What happens to a dream deferred?" We pray for answers to their hopes and dreams, yes, even dreams deferred that they may know that You are our God, that dreams deferred are not necessarily dreams denied, and that those who do not yet know you will come running, shouting, "What must I do to be saved?"

Abba, Father, Your Word in Ecclesiastes 9:11 says, "...that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong...." And we are reminded in Hebrews 12:1 that you have given us the prescription for winning this challenging race called life. We are to run this race with patience, looking to Your Son, Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is now seated at Your right hand.

Help our military families to stay strong in You, Lord, and the power of Your might. Give them spiritual armor for maximum protection. We pray for the victory according to Your will.

In Jesus' Name.

Min. Angela Lee Price Launches New Radio Show on WLLV

Praise the Lord, Everybody!  This is Min. Angela Lee Price inviting you to listen for my new radio show, Jesus Saves Ministries Live, Thursdays at 9:30 on 1240 Love WLLV AM.  This ministry dares to declare, to the utmost, Jesus Saves from the penalty, power, and presence of sin in our lives.  You're sure to be inspired by the Word of God and by the people of God who walk it like they talk it, by faith and not by sight.  
We kick off the launch of the show on August 9th with guest Monica Hill, 2nd Runner Up in the Ms. WLOU Pageant at Summerfest back in June.   On August 16th, my guest will be  1st Runner Up, Rochelle Brinkley.  On August 23rd,  Bernice Mechel Mitchell, author of the new book, L.A.B.E.L.S., Strategies for Healing Negative Thought Patterns will be my guest. Pioneer Womanist Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon Has Taken Her Rest

Sad news from Louisville Seminary...

Dear LPTS Community: It is with a heavy heart that I share with you news on the passing of the pioneering womanist ethicist Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon. The first African American woman to be ordained in the United Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Cannon was a venerable member of the Union Presbyterian Seminary. In 2011, she was honored by the American Academy of Religion with its Excellence in Teaching Award. In June 2018, she received the Excellence in Theological Education Award at the PC(USA) General Assembly. Here at Louisville Seminary, the Katie Geneva Cannon Lectureship has served as a regular program of the Women’s Center at LPTS since 2006. Dr. Cannon herself was the inaugural lecturer. Cannon’s lecture entitled, “Untethering Grace from Dogmatic Anchors: A Womanist Critique of the Transatlantic Slave Trade,” focused on a doctrine of transformative grace that emerges from the biographies of Africans who were dispersed throughout the American Colonies as chattel property. Through this history Cannon believed there is much to learn about “the divine gift of redeeming love that enables us to affirm, even in the most dire, oppressive situations, our dignity as beloved persons created in the image of God.”  At the time of the establishment of the lectureship, Cannon said the honor of a lectureship was quite unexpected, very much like the “unexpected journey of my life,” which she describes as one of blessings and daggers – some of which she saw reflected in the unpredictable 50-year journey of clergywomen. A Prayer for the Homeless - 7-25-18

A Prayer for the Homeless

Heavenly Father, We come to you today on behalf of the least of these, particularly the homeless.  Forgive our sins, oh Lord, and hear our prayers!  "For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people"  (Psalm 69: 33). Help America and each one of us to realize there but by the grace of God go I.    Bless the homeless to receive justice in Your Court, Lord! "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace"  (Isaiah 9:6).   Rebuke Satan for Your Namesake, Oh Lord.  You are Jehovah Jireh, our Great and Awesome Provider.

We thank you for temporary housing and shelters, for all those who give tirelessly to feed, clothe, and house the homeless and poor.  Oh Lord, Don't let the heat of the summer sun blind your people to the homeless begging on street corners and sleeping at bus stops.  Don't let winter's brutal elements keep Your people from offering warmth to people who need it.  Protect the homeless sleeping under bridges and in the streets of our bustling cities.   Open the door of the church houses daily to receive them. Dwell among Your homeless people, we pray, even those who do not know You as Lord and Savior. Bring them into Your Building not made by hands.  We thank you that some will return to permanent housing and employment by your compassionate will.  In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
