Jesus Saves Ministries Live Featuring Guest Rev. Lesa Dae

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread, Matthew 6:11

This request is a "big ticket" request for provision, self direction and sufficiency. We all need subsistence in our lives, the ability to support ourselves at basic levels. "Bread," This is the first request in The Model Prayer, often called The Lord's Prayer. This is the central theme in this portion of the prayer. It has to do with our being and subsistence. Father give us what we need to nourish and sustain us.
"Our bread," refers to what belongs to us. It implies honesty and industry. We will work creatively in some way for sustenance, giving an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.
"Our daily bread," is based on the economic systems of the times, the varied legal ways we acquire bread. It is the bread we need for the only time we have, today.
"Give us...our daily bread," directs our attention to our source, the Giver of all good and perfect gifts. It declares our dependence on God.
"Give us...our bread," teaches corporateness in prayer and implies development of compassion for those without means to attain daily sustenance.
"Give us this day our daily bread" tell us our request must be made daily. It forces us to daily communion with God. We thank you Jehovah Jireh, our awesome Provider for daily bread, and for You Son Jesus, the Bread of Life. Glory to Your name. Amen.
