Happenings on the Jesus Saves Social Network - 1-21-15

By: Min. Angela Lee Price

Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow.  Lead me by your truth and teach me; for you are the God who saves me (Psalms 25:4-5). NLT

What magnificent verses for facing life in this new year full of important choices and decisions to make.  Psalm 25 is a psalm of protection and deliverance and a lament.  The psalmist combines confessions of guilt, with heartfelt pleas for mercy, protection, and guidance and expressions of confidence in God to be a compassionate deliverer.
Also, this Psalm of David is a Hebrew acrostic poem; each verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. A final verse (25:22) with the Hebrew letter pe is added to the normal 22-letter alphabet.  The letters aleph, lamed, pe open the first, middle (25:11), and last lines of the Psalm.  Together, they spell aleph, the first letter of the alphabet, from a Hebrew root that means "to learn."  What a guide in choosing God's way!
There are so many choices and so little time!  You can be sure you're choosing God's way when you ask Him to "show you the right path" by "pointing out the road to follow."   Isn't it good news to know that God will point out your path when put your faith in Him. He won't be vague about it, but will tell you exactly what to do. The Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6).
In choosing God's way, the Lord will give you specific guidance, direction, and instruction, but you must be willing to follow the path.  Isn't it terrible when God tells someone what to do, but they don't it!  Let's not second guess God in 2015, brothers and sisters!   Don't think you know it all, or that you know more than God!  Pray and see what the Word of God says about your problem!  The Bible says, "There is a path before each person that seems right but it ends in death" (Proverbs 16:25).   No matter how well you lead on the job, at home, church, and/or school, in choosing God's way, you must be willing, like the psalmist, to follow, "Lead me by your truth" and a learn, "Teach me"We must be willing to be lead and taught by the Word of God which is the truth of God.
God's way provides more benefits than any other way!  God's way is the way of truth (Ps. 25:5), mercy (Ps. 25:10), obedience (Ps. 25;10), peace (Prov. 3:17), holiness (Isa. 35:8), safety (Isa. 35:9), prosperity (Gen 24:56).
How can we learn and choose God's way? Through Jesus Christ the God who saves (John 6:40, John 8:12, John 10:28; John 10:9)! I love it where the psalmist says, for you are the God who saves me (v5b).   That is what the Lord did and does for me.  He saved me and he keeps on saving me, even when I don't deserve it.  Ask Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson. And the best part,  Jesus wants to save anyone who is willing to put faith in Him.  Jesus saves!

Reviews Very Positive for Movie "Selma," Opens Nationwide January 9th

Reviews Very Positive for  Movie, 'Selma' Opens Nationwide January 9th
We meet Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1964, moments before his acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo. He’s practicing, reciting key phrases in the mirror, working on his ascot. The speech is done, he’ll deliver it with his typical Baptist fervor, it’s the ascot he’s concerned about. He doesn’t want to look overly sophisticated, or above his cause. His wife Coretta (Carmen Ejogo) is there, assuring him he’ll be fine. King is fully aware of the power of his words, his presence, and we immediately become fascinated by this man’s thoughtfulness of presence. He has to be self-conscious, especially if he’s an audible figurehead amidst one of the most racially contentious and frankly quite scary watershed moments in America.
Jump to his failed initial talks with President Lyndon Johnson (Tom Wilkinson, in a strikingly unattractive performance). King wants voting rights, and an affirmative push against backwoods garbage policies that restrict blacks from voting. Johnson hears these complaints, and yet he assumes his signing of the Civil Rights Act of ’64 should have sufficed for King, and it’s just not the right time for more race issues. King must act, and in that moment, he sets in motion what would become a peak moment in his career — the epic 1965 march from Selma, Alabama to the state’s capital in Montgomery. The entire account will leave your heart outside your chest. (More)

Movie review: 'Selma' presents the dignified leader and his powerful movement

"Selma," whose name echoes the history being told, is one of those films that gets history right, honors it, entertains you without sacrificing the real thing, and moves you to no end. Anchored by an amazing lead performance from David Oyelowo as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Selma" has the ability to break and shatter the hardest of souls, thicken your pulse, and devour your tissue box. The experience is entirely worth all of that trouble. Best of all, it earn that emotion from you. Dare I say, "Selma" might be even better than last year's Best Picture winner "12 Years a Slave." That's the level of impact we're talking about. (Click link in title for more)

Share Jesus Saves Ministries Prayer Journals In This Season of Prayer and Fasting

Jesus Saves Ministries presents for re-distribution two of our own prayer journals, the "Forward: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting" and the "Break Every Chain" prayer journals. These prayer journals contain original prayers written by members of the Jesus Saves Social Network and a few of our local community partners.  These journals are being offered again for use during this season of prayer and fasting.  We encourage you to download and read them as part of your personal devotional time.  Also, you may share them as evangelistic tools, perhaps with friends, family members, colleagues, and co-workers, anyone standing in the need of prayer.

The Bible gives us a number of promises for answered prayer and one of them is asking in agreement with God’s will, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us” (1 John 5:14).
A special thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to everyone who submitted prayers to the Jesus Saves Ministries’ prayer initiative, “Forward: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting,” and to all who prayed along with us for 21 days in January 2014.   The theme was a portion of the “Model Prayer,” also known as “The Lord’s Prayer,” in Luke 11:2 and Matthew 6:10, “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Jesus never intended The Lord’s Prayer to be recited verbatim, but rather as a model for effective, life-changing relationship with God.  The significance of our focal passages is dependency and submission to the will of God.  Also, the emphasis was not just to pray, but also fast as Jesus stated in Matthew 17:21 that some things will only come about with prayer and fasting.
The online component of this prayer initiative was coupled with a local community component, the Break Every Chain Prayer Breakfast.  There was a powerful move of God that day as attendees poured out their hearts to God with heart-felt prayers, and testimonies, and also by sharing the love of Jesus Christ with one another.  Out of that prayer breakfast was birth the "Break Every Chain" prayer journal.  By faith, we believe God has heard our prayers for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
