My Pictures from St. Stephen 83rd Church Anniversary Picnic

Min. Angela Lee Price

I have discovered that as a blogger I don't want to just talk about church, but be about it. So, I am sharing in this pictorial post a little bit of what I was able to capture myself of the St. Stephen 83rd Church Anniversary and Picnic.

The choir in this slideshow is the Tabernacle Choir featuring Min. Kevin James. I have a snippet of video on them, and Joe Leavell and The Temple Choir on the Jesus Saves Ministries Social Network. With these two awesome choirs, the Sanctuary Choir, the Voices of Praiz, the Mighty Men, the Women's Choir, our Praise Teams and Indiana and Dosker Manor choirs and children's choir, we worship and praise the Lord at St. Stephen Church. That is for sure!

My Sunday school class, Learning About Jesus sends regards to you. We had a great time at the picnic, as you shall see. If ever you're in Louisville, we would love to have you study the Word with us Sundays at 8:30 a.m. in Room 306 of the St. Stephen Family Life Center.

And yes, there was some dancing going on outside, too. I got some much-needed exercise and did the Electric Slide and tried to pick up on one or two of the new dances by watching the kids. There was a little boy doing a dance called "the Stinky Leg" that caught my attention - lol!

We had a glorious time in the Lord! Wish you were here!

Dr. Stacey Spencer Preaches at St. Stephen 83rd Church Anniversary

Rev. Angela Lee Price
Rev. Dr. Stacey Spencer, Sr. Pastor, New Direction Church, Memphis TN was the guest preacher yesterday at St. Stephen Church in Louisville, Kentucky for the church's 83rd anniversary. Dr. Spencer preached three services in Louisville and one service at our Jeffersonville, Indiana campus. At the 9:40 service, he called worship leader Jason Clayborne from the audience to help illustrate a point in his message, "Can You Handle the Glory?," based on 1 Chronicles Chapter 13.

Dr. Spencer got his start in ministry as the Youth Pastor at St. Stephen Church in the early '90's under Dr. Kevin Cosby. He shared testimony of how God chose him, a "country boy," from Western Kentucky University, to preach the Word of God. Dr. Cosby stated in his introductory remarks that Dr. Spencer currently pastors the fastest growing Disciples of Christ church in the nation.

In this video from the 11:30 service message, "The Old Me Is Dead and Gone," based on John 20:10-18, you will hear me yelling and praising God. I could not hold back my joy. This is the very text I preached on Memorial Day at St. Stephen East, our Dosker Manor location in Louisvlle. My sermon title was "Now Run And Tell That! The June 1st, June 9th & June 10th posts on this blog are based on that sermon. Through Dr. Spencer, God encouraged me in my preaching ministry. To God be the glory!

Are You Asleep On Your J.O.B.?

By: Min. Angela Lee Price
In Matthew 26, Jesus rebuked the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, and more than once for falling asleep on the job. Like the disciples, Christians have been given a job to do, to "go ye therefore" and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, as the gospel is watered down, Jesus is reinvented to appeal to a materialistic society, and Christianity is marginalized even further on the world stage, too many of us are asleep on the job.

In Matt. 26:38, Jesus told the disciples, “Stay here and keep watch with me.” After rebuking them in verses 40-43, He prayed and returned to them a third time and said, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed in the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer." My Bible tells me the garden was the place of Jesus' agonizing prayer, Judas' brutal betrayal, and Christ's wrongful arrest. However, when Jesus needed His disciples most, they didn't have His back. They were asleep on the job. Jesus Christ needs His church today to "have His back," be alert and on her J.O.B., Jesus Official Business. Too many religions are out there "out-witnessing us witnesses!" And, as a result the church is in decline and losing ground.

What makes matters worse is this wasn't the only time Jesus told the disciples to be on guard. In Luke 12:1 (NIV) He said, "Be on guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy." In Mark 13:35, “…keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back….do not let him find you sleeping.” He told the brothers in Luke 21:36, "be always on watch, and pray...." Another translations says, "Keep on the alert at all times...." But like too many Christians today, the brothers were asleep on the job. Yes, their bodies where there with Jesus, but their minds where way on the other side of the town. They were absent-minded, missing in action, asleep on the job, snoring even!

Scripture says to be faithful over a few things, and He will make you ruler over many. Are you faithful in Sunday school, ministry, and church attendance? Are you in the Word of God, equipping yourself daily and watching for opportunities to "go ye therefore," and witness the Good News that Jesus saves? Or, are you, like the disciples were in the Garden of Gethsemane, asleep on your J.O.B., Jesus Official Business?
