WLOU Radio Receives Stellar Nomination

By: Rev. Angela Lee Price

Somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas while we were digging out the Christmas decorations, my husband, radio programmer and Morning Drive announcer "Legendary Dr. Bill Price" (photo left) told me that WLOU Radio had been nominated for a Stellar Award in gospel radio.

I thought at first my ears were deceiving me. You see, he was in the basement watching television and I was in the kitchen when he broke the news. All I could hear he shout up was, "Hey baby, mumble, mumble, mumble...Stella, it's on!" I replied, "It's on?" He said with a tone of jubilation, "Yeah baby, it's onnnn!" When I got to the basement, I took one look at the television in disappointment and said, "I thought you said it was on. I don't see it?" He gave me a questioning look and said, "What are you talking about?" I said, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back. I thought you said it was on." Well, of course, we both got a few chuckles out of that one.

Who could have thunk it (excuse my grammar)? Louisville's own WLOU Radio nominated for a Stellar Award! Bill didn't believe it either. He had gotten a couple of phone calls from the Stellar Awards and didn't return them immediately not knowing that the station had been nominated. He later confirmed that the station had indeed been nominated by several people in the gospel music industry. We discovered this afternoon, however, that WLOU did not make the finalist list.

We are so very grateful WLOU received a nomination. We thank God and those who considered WLOU and the work that Bill, General Manager Archie Dale, and the staff are doing to provide quality gospel music, and programming in the Louisville market. Bill eats, sleeps, and dreams radio. No matter the frequency, AM or FM, or the genre, R&B, classic R&B, Hip Hop, blues, jazz, or gospel, he has commanded of his on-air staffs over the years, and of himself, excellence in radio.

The 23rd Annual Stellar Awards will be held January 12th at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee. Kirk Franklin, Byron Cage, and CeCe Winans will host this year's event.
