Jesus Saves Ministries Hosts Heart & Soul Prayer Brunch & Black History Celebration

On Saturday, February 18, Jesus Saves Ministries and The Life Conference Suite hosted the Heart & Soul Prayer Brunch & Black History Celebration.  The event began with one hour of corporate prayer facilitated by Evangelist Sherri Dunn, Founder, Life Seed's Ministry, and brought together clergy, prayer leaders, and community activists in fervent prayer for our youth and West Louisville neighborhoods for end to murder and gun violence; increased dialogue/support of our youth, and economic revitalization in West Louisville.

Antonio "T-Made" Taylor, host of The TurnUp Show on WLOU 104.7 FM served as emcee for the "Blessed Mic" segment which brought together Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers for a Black History tribute.  "Blessed Mic" featured Christian poet J Williams who presented the piece, "O, O People - the Remix" that incorporated the '80s song "Yearning for Your Love" by the Gap Band.  Youth minister, author Cecil Clardy, III spoke on "Be the Change." He stated, "Always leave the woodpile a little higher than you found it.  Don't take and take without ever contributing to it.  Add to the pile." Poet and author Synthia Shelby presented several pieces incorporating songs "that helped lead our people to freedom" , "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," "Trouble In My Way," and "Hold to His Hand."   Louisville's up and coming 19-year-old gospel singer Demetrius Gunn sang, "More than Anything," by Lamar Campbell, and shared a brief testimony.  Pastor Ruth Wilson blessed the food. She also does Christian comedy. Lord, she was hilarious!  During the brunch, guests answered black history questions, mostly on WLOU Radio which is celebrating its 65 anniversary in 2017, or received gifts in random drawings.  Gifts included more than 25 pieces of beautiful necklaces donated to the event, and Black History Month Gospel Music Sampler CDs donated by WLOU.  We bless God for a wonderful time of prayer, fellowship, and celebration!

The preaching moment featured two anointed women of God.  Rev. Therese Wright, Founder, Sisters Road to Freedom, and Associate Pastor, Royal Priesthood Ministries of Lexington, preached from the subject, "The Condition of Your Soul."  She stated, "We are suppose to be striving each day for perfection...perfection has to do with spiritual maturity.... Many want to say we're Christians and we are comfortable just being Christians, but we don't want to do anything else.  There is more that God requires of us.  The songwriter says, 'Will my heart and soul still say yes?'"

Rev. Syvoskia Bray Pope, Pastor, New Century Fellowship Christian Church, Louisville preached on, "A Black Women's Perspective: What's In Your Heart & Soul?"  Blending in black history, women's history and love for God, Rev. Pope looked out the window as she spoke and stated, "When you look around our community, what do you see? It ain't pretty is it? No one is going to do for you what you need to do for yourself!"
