Hope for the Future: Rev. Angela's Cousin Donna Brown Appointed Deputy Mayor of Buffalo, NY

The Bible states in Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." So, it is with extreme pleasure that I introduced to you my cousin, the newly appointed Deputy Mayor of Buffalo, New York, Donna Brown. My great aunt Christine, Donna's mother sent articles just last week. I was overjoyed to read of Donna's, excuse me, Deputy Mayor Donna's appointment. Deputy Mayor Donna was a big supporter of Jesus Saves Ministries in its first year, 2005-2006. We e-mailed each other regularly then. I said to myself just a couple of months ago, "Whatever happened to Donna? I miss talking to her."

I am going to include on the Jesus Saves Ministries Blog soon family pictures and the personal story of faith that resulted in my traveling to New Jersey and New York for the first time in the early 1990's to meet my great aunts, uncles, and cousins on my mother's side. I spent one week with my uncle Altmon, aunt Christine, and cousin Donna, and kindled a wonderful relationship with them. My grandmother who resided in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida her entire life, passed at age 75 in 1989. She was the oldest sibling, and Uncle Altmon was next to her. They were very close, so she spoke of him often when I visited and talked with her by phone. Uncle Altmon is 91 now. Doesn't he look good? God has blessed him, not only with long life as he is a cancer survivor, but with the ability to witness his only child reach such heights in government. And I am grateful.

The picture above was taken April 12, 1989 at my home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL just after my grandmother's funeral. Donna is on the far left, Uncle Altmon is on the right next to my sister, Jackie. That is my brother, Rev. Michael in the middle next to me. The lady in the in the red and white was the next door neighbor.

Please keep Donna, her children and family in your prayers. She is facing some serious challenges as Buffalo has the second highest poverty rate in the nation. It is my prayer that the Lord will use Donna in her appointment to provide hope for people of color and hope for Buffalo's future.

Remember, it is not Mohammad, Buddha, Confucius, nor New Age that saves. Jesus Saves!
