Prayer, A New Twist on High Five Day!

By:  Angela Lee Price

"And He said to them, 'Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing set before him'; and he will answer from within and say, 'Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in the bed; I cannot rise and give to you'?  I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give  him as many  as he needs.  So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you"' Luke 11:9 NKJV.

On this National High Five Day, let's take the high five to a whole new level through prayer and intercession! Our communities need prayer like never before!  People of God, give the Lord a "high five!" Do it not because you are so good, but because God is so good. He is worthy to be praised! He heals, delivers, sanctifies, sets free, restores, and mostly importantly, Jesus saves!

A high five is more than what we do on Sunday mornings when the sermon gets good; more than something we do to when our team is winning.  A high five are the names of five people for whom we are constantly praying! These are five people who may be hard to reach.  These are people who may have given up on God.  They may not want to about Jesus, but you can pray for them. Ask, seek, and knock in your prayers as you tell the Lord about the needs of your five friends, relatives, co-workers, even your enemies. Pray in the name of Jesus. You are asking the One with all power on earth and in heaven to touch their lives when you pray in Jesus name for your friends and family, even your enemies to receive Christ.
Saul of Tarsus was a powerful enemy of Christian. No one could witness to him. He was full of hate. He persecuted Christians, but he met Jesus on the Road to Damascus and became one of the greatest proponents for Christianity who ever lived.

The Lord hears our requests when we ask, seek, and knock not because we are so good, but because of our persistence in prayer, "I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs (Luke 11:8). Never doubt that God is able to do exceeding, abundantly more than we can ask or think according to the power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).
Do NOT think your prayers are weak or ineffective for the five people who are hard to reach or who may have rejected Jesus Christ. If they are hard, you "go hard" in your prayer life!  Ask, seek, and knock are really three different ways of doing the same thing.   In order words, you should ask, and ask, and keep on asking in prayer.  Now give yourself the highest of fives, a list of five people you are constantly praying for. Friends don't let friends miss heaven!  So, intercede to high heaven for your five people to be saved or reconnected to Jesus Christ today! Don't give up on them because God didn't give up on us!   Jesus died and rose again while we were yet sinners that we might have relationship with God, an abundant life here on earth, and eternal life in heaven. There is power in prayer! The prayers of the righteous availeth much!!

Make His Praise Glorious!

"Shout with joy to God, all the earth!  Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!  Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds!  So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.  All the earth bows down to you.  They sing praise to you.  They sing praise to your name.  Selah.  Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf!"  Psalm 66:1-5.

Gospel artist Martha Munizzi has a song entitled, "Glorious."  We play it on the radio.   When you hear this upbeat song, you can't help but to praise God because a reoccuring line in the song states, "I was created to make Your praise glorious!"   The song reminds us that our top priority on the job, at lunch, and throughout the day is to put God first and give Him glorious praise in thought and in deed.

Psalm 66 is a great foundational  and complementary text to Martha Munizzi's song, "Glorious."  The psalmist reminds us we are here to give God glorious praise!  When we think about how awesome God is, we should become thankful for His goodness towards us.  He's the uncaused Cause who causes everything to exist; He's the God who causes our solar systerm, the galaxies, and the universe to hang in the heavens; He's the God who delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and into the Promise Land; and He's the God who was so mindful of tiny, insignificant humanity that He gave His only Son to die for our sins!   When we think about all this, how awesome (terrible) is our God, we should want to make our praise glorious!

To make His praise glorious we should  1) "Shout with joy to God (v1); 2) Sing the glory of his name (v2); 3) Say to Him (in prayer) (v3); and 4) Come and see what He has done (v5)!

This week, make His praise glorious!  Shout, sing, say, and invite the unchurched and dechurched to come and see our awesome God!  He is worthy to be praised!
